Whatever you did to improve performance..
It's working!
I've gone from average 25 to average around 40, with occasional glimpses of things even higher...

This client version improved alot my AGP performance and the Screenshotfix auto numbering helps me alot.
Ripple water and other features didn't slow my machine too much. Thanks For the update!

Don“t know when was fixed the copy and paste but it is working.

My legs are white!
09-29-2006 12:03
I've not had much chance to try the new client but the obvious thing that seems wrong to me is that my legs are white! I tried turning off all the Avatar options in preferences (and even AGP) but to no avail.

The best I got was when I took all of my clothes off and got a brief glimpse of a flesh coloured Christine (down boys!) before the legs went all white again.

Switching back to the older Linux client or the latest Mac version is fine.

I'm not sure how to pursue this further, any hints gratefully received.

My legs are red!

When I wear some red sports briefs made from a trouser layer, at least.

And my shirt-sleves don't end at my wrists properly (cover the tops of my hands)

Adjusting cut-off length in the edit-appearance has no effect.

AND MY HEAD IS PURPLE!!!

Aparently a lot of this is only visible to me (luckily, but still distractingly).

Oh, and texture uploads is GREAT (the filename/location hack doesn't bother me at all ;-)

My nose is blue,
my teeth are green,
my face is like a soup tureen.
I look just like a lima bean.
I'm very, very lovely.
My feet are far too short
and LONG. My hands are left and right
and wrong.
My voice is like the hippo's song.
I'm very, very,
very, very,
very, very
lovely?

Crashes X for me...
09-29-2006 15:43
I just tried it and it totally wipes out X. The login screen works great... and I can go into the prefs menu from there and that's fine too.

As soon as I login and the "Precaching..." bar starts rolling up however, it'll totally lock the system for about a minute, then X gets into this constant restarting loop. I have to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del about 20 times to get the system to reboot.

This system was working perfectly under 1.12.1.9, and I haven't changed any settings since installing .13.

It's an IBM/Lenovo X60 laptop, with integrated Intel video. I just fired up 1.12.1.9 and it works as before, so there's something going on with .13, I think. It's tough to collect diag info from the system when it gets in that state, but I'll see if I can get anything.

1.12.1.9 works fine.

1.12.1.13 locks up X. even sysrq kernel inputs don't work.

Running Debian unstable kernel:

IBM ThinkPad t43

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Radeon Mobility M300]

last few lines of log:

2006-09-29T21:30:52Z INFO: Decoded 6 msgs, net 0 msgs queued this frame!
2006-09-29T21:30:52Z INFO: New baked texture: EYES

Again, 1.12.1.9 runs just fine. I turned off all available graphics options in preferences. quit, come back, and setting are preserved. Join game and everything renders for 10 seconds or so and then crashes hard. Power off is the only option.

Holler if there is more info you need. I'm concerned that the 1.12.2.x releases will do the same. Guess I'll try the test grid and see.

Try this for a fix...

Set the environment variable LL_GL_NOEXT=x before running SL. That fixed my problems.

My legs are red!

Hmm it seems to have gone away after some fiddling - though the settings are back to normal with all optimisations turned on!

I'm not sure what made it go away. Mysterious!

What Happened to linux alpha 1.12.1.13 client on download page?
10-02-2006 11:36
Hi all, just got back to this thread today and went looking for the 1.12.1.13 client on the download page and don't see it. I see the 1.12.1.9 client. I've been looking through the rest of the threads thinking it got pulled for some reason but haven't seen anyone mention that yet. Did I miss out? :-(

Thanks for pointing that out, that's very odd. I've notified the web team and hopefully the .13 version will be re-asserted soon.

LL_GL_NOEXT=x ?
10-02-2006 11:52
This seems to have worked for me. Thanx!

I don't get the repeatable crash. I only did a little testing so far.

Where did this come from? What does it do? Are there more env vars I should know about?

Bug.
10-02-2006 13:59
New inventory items of some types, notably including objects, especialy returns, seem to be failing to appear in Inventory until after a relog. This didn`t exist for me before the optional Linux-specific upgrade. I have also been having difficulties getting scripts to copy from object inventory to my inventory. Might this be related?
