It seems the Linux client is relatively low on fatal bugs and issues lately, and the number of unimplemented features is shrinking as well. Might it be time to call it a beta?

I would say, when the Upload / Download textures feature is "normal" - analogue to the Windows / Mac client - it COULD go beta!

Anyone else have something that is a Must Have before we award Tofu the Status of "Designated Beta-izer :D "?

The auto update feature needs to be working, too, as well as the crash reporter.

Alpha-Beta

in my vocabulary, "Alpha" means that the developers are using it (not just working on it). if non-developers are using it (not just testing it) then it is "Beta".

in short, if non-developers are installing and using it, it is already Beta.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_software

The client doesn't quite have all the features and isn't bug free yet. But almost. In the end it doesn't much matter what it is called. It has been released for people to try with the understanding that it may not have all the features and what features it has might not work as intended.

I like to think of Beta as "all the features, sort of, but not yet cleaned up..."

Alpha is "It works, try it out & let me know what happens :D ".

We are past Alpha, by this definition, but not yet Beta...

However, both the above posts have a good point - we ARE using it as Our Real Client, and Who Cares What it is Called?

I call it Alpha anyway :p though this is NOT the Alpha we all grew to Love :o for SO many months!
