Still trying to get video to work: gentoo, fluxbox, second life 1_18_1_2.

Ok, I've narrowed down the gst-plugin for the video I am trying to view.

It is gst-plugins-gnomevfs.

Without it, I get a "no uri handler implemented for "http"" error.

But with it, I get the following output:

INFO: load: Setting media URI: http://static.secondlife.com/vidtuts/eric_textures-en-vts_textures_Eng.mov
INFO: load returns 1
INFO: looping media... 0
INFO: playing media...
INFO: my_bus_callback: Got GST message type: clock-provide
INFO: my_bus_callback: Got GST message type: error
INFO: my_bus_callback: GST error: Could not open resource for reading.
INFO: stopping media...

It seems like it want the element to provide a clock, but when I run

gst-inspect-0.10 gnomevfssrc I see as part of the output:

Element has no clocking capabilities
Element has no indexing capabilities

So why would the media be set to use this plugin and want a clock when the plugin doesn't come with clocking abilities?

The quest continues....

*bump*

must be a Gentoo thing...no one seems to have any answers...(crickets chirping in background)..

I even installed Gnome and tried with that...same clock error with gstreamer.

Oh well, it's obviously not ready for prime time...I'll just skip the movie viewing...Hope voice chat doesn't present the same obstacles....

I think the problem with Gentoo is that there's no 32-bit libs for the latest gstreamer and half the plugins are masked. :(

Hey Tofu? Whatch version of GStreamer are you using to compile SL with?

Fedora Core 5 and Fedora core 6 give no joy on video, either. The popular americafree.tv are all unviewable, I don't have the output handy right now, but it looks like it;s waiting for some event that doesn't come.

Other gstreamer applications cannot open the americafree.tv ones, either, while Windows users can watch them.

I found another stream I can open with other applications, but it will not show in SL...

Please tell us exactly what versions are needed of what plugins/base, and where to get them, if they are special ones.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 7.10, and I have gstreamer with every package available for it installed...

I can run movie files just fine in Totem, but it still will not work in Second Life. Everything is installed from the repos, and I've added Medibuntu.org to my sources.list.

It still insists that I don't have the correct decoder

The URL you're trying to load, http://www.movie-list.net/classics/army-of-darkness.mov , doesn't go to a media stream, it redirects to http://www.movie-list.com/ .

The message a little further down, ** Message: don't know how to handle text/html, is further proof that that's the problem.
