Each release shows marginal but steady improvement.
The major releases suffer from the same problem the windows people have and that shows at least there is common code and consistency.
I think this code is for tested distributions beta quality if not better.
When do we get a production release?

I believe they are calling it an "alpha" release only because certain features remain unimplemented. Traditionally, "beta" means all features work, but there are still bugs that need to be eliminated. I think you're right, the current "alpha" is at least as good as the current Windows release, and I think better because it runs under Linux! But it still needs some things to be implemented, such as the movie viewer and update download function.
