From the known bug list:
* UPLOAD / SAVE / COLOR-PICKER DIALOGS - These only function when the client is in 'windowed' mode, not 'fullscreen' mode.

PROBLEM:
In windowed mode, I can't upload multiple textures at all. I get a bizarre error about the server having problems and what looks like a resource ID. This happends no matter where I try uploading.

Toggling between full-screen (so I can use ALT-ZOOM and build with what I uploaded) back to Windowed so I can upload another texture locks up the system. And because I am in full-screen mode, I can't use my process-killer. Pressing the reset button works.

This is a CORE FUNCTION for builders: uploading lots of tectures, zooming aorund in the build we are making, and having to reboot (losing the thing I was building) is becming annoying.

For what it's worth, your problem with Alt-Zoom is almost certainly a side-effect of some window manager setting, not an SL problem. In general, the viewer seems a lot more stable in windowed mode than in full-screen, even on Windoze.

Depending on *how* locked-up your system gets, you might be able to get to another virtual terminal with Control-Alt-F1 (or Fn for n in 1..6). Or, if you have another machine handy, getting sshd (or even xdm) working for a remote login might be worthwhile, to avoid rebooting.
