When starting 1.12.3.4 on my FC4 machine, the process now hangs after the message:
INFO: LLAudioEngine_FMOD::init() initializing FMOD
I was able to successfully launch and connect the very first time, but all subsequent attempts have stopped cold here. I've run every version of the alpha client since early August without a hitch. I did make sure that I had the FMOD Ex 4.04.30 libraries installed.
Any insight as to where I should start the troubleshooting process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE:
I tracked it down to a problem with ALSA. Not sure what the problem is yet, but by running:
LL_BAD_ALSA=x ./secondlife
I can get through start up and get online. I didn't have audio working prior, although it was never a fatal problem until this release. Thanks to the tips in the known bugs thread - I should've looked harder but was anxious to get on again.

From: Drake Bacon I have the same problem w/FMOD and ALSA. Everything else works, so I force ESD. I was able to get past the hangup with FMOD using (I assume) OSS by: LL_BAD_ALSA=x ./secondlife But I'm forcing ESD now, too: LL_BAD_ALSA=x LL_BAD_OSS=x ./secondlife I can get started up, log on, and as a bonus, now I've got audio! Of course forcing ESD might have given me audio if I had tried on earlier releases, but I didn't.

That's incredibly strange - ESD is already the default as of 1.12.3.x. There may be another release today; I'll try to sneak in some extra debugging messages, and then posting your secondlife.log for a startup with default options would be helpful.

Can you try running ESD in another terminal window first, and then starting ./secondlife?

Anyone still having audio problems, please post a lastrun.log up to the login screen from 1.12.3.6 which contains more verbose audio initialization for troubleshooting. If the LL_BAD_* switches help, please report.

Is this still an issue in 1.12.3.6 for affected people?

It seems I can run Second Life now on 1.12.3 (6) without any LL_BAD_* sound variables and without aoss. So for me it seems fixed.
