'hesitation' after last upgrade

I have been using the linux alpha client on Ubuntu 6.06 for quite a while now, and find it MUCH more stable than windows... until the last 'upgrade' to the grid. Now, with the new viewer ( 2.11) ... I get an odd 'hesitation' every so often. For 1-5 seconds the client freezes... and then takes up the action again. This is really irritating for building,.. ok, for everything. Has anybody else noticed this, and/or know what to do about it? I even flushed my cache !!!

I did too and others as well. and it doesnt seem to be a linux problem only either. the only solution seems to be to hope that the next update will fix that problem :/

I am not a Linux user But I too am getting this 'hesitation' happening to me. I don`t know what it is but its crossing formats it seems. I wonder if tofu or steve linden has any answers for this. I like to hear them.

I am sorry If should not post in this forum, but I thought maybe I should.

Thank you for reading

I don't see this behavior myself, but we go a lot of reports about this last night on Help Request. Lindens are aware of the problem, so that should hopefully be fixed soon.

I'm also getting this issue. It's a very annoying bug; worst yet for me (in terms of usability) with a "stable" release.

Well it is officialy still Alpha.... that's a far shot from stable in software development.

I have noticed the freezing too. I thought its just lag, but it really freezes now and again. I noticed it at least when I was looking my avatar with alt+ctrl mouse look. And I managed to crash the client a couple of times. And then I got huge lag too etc.

But I use Windows client.

It's not just happening on the Linux client, but thanks for the education.

BSD. MySQL. The entire Debian distribution.

"Alpha" being unstable doesn't really cut it in the Linux/BSD world. Debian unstable is alpha and Debian testing is beta; both are almost always rock-solid and reliable.

Calling something "alpha" doesn't excuse you from breakages.

The so-called "alpha" linux client is in itself stabler than the Mac client, as far as I have been able to tell, and MUCH closer to the usability of the Windows client.

I cannot see where the SL Linux Client as such is unstable. If this were the case, erveryone using it, on all Linux flavours, would have a problem. And I for one have so few crashes, that it is not something I can even try to reproduce for a bug report.

The main gripes I have seen on this thread seem to be SL Release related, and not Linux specific.

To get rid of the "Flavour Dependency", maybe a bigger tarball, with the tricky stuff included in the "./lib" directory? I would not notice any improvement though, regarding stability, since I cannot see any instability :D

I did notice that checking my map, will cause the hesitation. CPU usage drops at that time also.
