I've been noticing a few differences between the Windows client and the Linux client as far as using the keyboard for things go. For example, I HAVE to use page up/down to fly up and down on the Linux side, while on the windows side I can use 'E' and 'C'.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to zoom in/out. Not the literal zoom (ctrl-8, 9, &0), but the zoom you can use in windows to briefly change your view (alt+arrow key of choice). Side to side works, but up and down does... well... unuseful things. Since my avatar of coice is a huge dragon, it's a bit hard getting around without zoom :/
Anyone know what they are? Also, are there other keys that differ that I should know about?
Thanks!

It's a known bug that the Linux client does not support all hotheys properly. WASD movement and E/C flying is not working, Copy/Paste neither. ALT-Mouselook is possible when you set your window manager (KDE, Gnome, WindowMaker or similar) to use a different key for window movement. I set mine to Left Windows key, this leaves the ALT key free for Second Life camera zooming Good luck and please read the sticky postings on top of this forum. There's a wealth of information inside, addressing your questions here as well.

Hmm... sorry, I should have been more specific I've already set my windows key to be my alt key, but still can't pan around... that's why I was wondering if there's another alternate to alt-arrow... I've read all through the sticky, and that's the only refrence to any keys that can't be accessed by buttons that I've found, was the reason for the other question. I'm running a custom 2.6.15 kernel on Debian Testing with WindowMaker, btw... though that's prolly irrelevant info.

Ah, ok, I misunderstood the second part of the question then. "ALT+Arrow key" is complete news to me and I will try it out once I get home. Maybe I can come up with a more useful answer by then.

Same here. (Debian unstable, KDE) When trying to look with ALT+Mouselook my cam usually ends up somewhere far away on the ground. With ALT + Arrowkey it's the same But when going into Build-Mode, selecting an object and then going into the Tools-Menu and selecting "Focus on Selection" and "Zoom to Selection" (The Hotkeys aren't working) the cam control is working like in the Windows Version until you change the Point you're looking at. Then the cam is running away again. Maybe a bug in the Look-At-Routines or something?

This is a really strange report, as I can't reproduce it. ALT+mouselook works great on my side. Maybe something else is still bound to the ALT key? which ALT key are you using? On english keyboards there are two equal keys, mine has only one, the other being a special modifier key. Maybe there's a connection?
What keyboards do you guys have? Which keymaps do you use?
I have a PS/2 German 105 keys Keyboard, using de_DE layout.

Hmm... from what I remember, it's the standard ps/2 104/105 key layout, with US English... I'll check when I get home though.
With mine, alt+left/right arrow looks side to side, but alt+up switches windows (which it shouldn't be), and alt+down sends me into build mode. :/
I don't think I've used 'mouselook' at all yet... would that be alt+move mouse? If so, that does nothing (it was one of the things I tried when alt+arrow didn't work).
*edited to clarify something* I forgot to say: When I do alt+up and the window switches, it doesn't continue to switch as I press up like alt is still alt in windowmaker... almost like Second Life itself is remembering how I had my keys set up when I first ran it, and then windowmaker's custom keys take back over as soon as I'm in a different window... except I'm almost certain that's impossible.

*ahem* Eer... pan/zoom are now working corrrectly... I... err... *cough*stillhadaltmappedtosomething*cough* Oddly enough, what alt was still connected to had nothing to do with changing windows, like what was happening. Go fig. Ah well, consider this 'fixed'

Phew! Good thing you found the setting, I was already worried we couldn't find a solution for this

I made no OS changes (running Ubuntu Flight 5), and when I press the Alt-Ctrl combination it acts as just ALT does in Windows. So happy to finally have Alt-look back!
