Updated to the latest Wine (0.9.14) from Gentoo's setup and also installed the latest SL Windows client. Fur a lark I turned on sound, configured as ALSA using the dmixer plugin to boot.

hic

I must be drunk. It worked.

I know. Stock Wine, with Gentoo's patches (a gamma correction patch and "wine-gentoo-no-ssp". And sound worked. It just worked. Ditto with playing streaming audio. It was almost perfect.

I was similarly able to reproduce Sir Drake Bacon's results. The bards shall sing of his deeds. Or Gentoo's deeds.

I'm using Gentoo and the latest Wine as well and not getting the same results...Could you paste your USE flags and such for Wine to see if I'm being stupid or something?

Make sure you put app-emulation/wine into /etc/portage/package.keywords.

USE="-gnome -motif -nls -pam -apm acpi alsa bzlib mbox perl usb gimpprint \
scanner cdr cups foomaticdb ppds dvd 3dnow cdparanoia dvdread mmx \
nvidia real rtc sse theora 3dnowex xvid nomotif softmmu -ldap \
font-server dvdr -eds aac win32codecs ffmpeg vidix a52 -gstreamer \
-fortran live arts kde qt dbus hal dri vorbis samba xmms xml2 xml \
lcms esd tcltk ogg slang mng imagemagick glut audiofile sqlite \
mad bzip2 idn curl apache2 truetype"

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] app-emulation/wine-0.9.14 USE="X alsa arts cups -debug esd gif glut -jack jpeg lcms -ldap -nas ncurses opengl oss scanner truetype xml" 10,654 kB

Presumably the alpha-channel bug is still there?

Unfortunately, yes. I have to find the patch again and manually add it.
