I am, in fact, grateful that someone (perhaps unpaid) is working on the SL client. Can we chip in a few lindens to help him or her ? I'm trying so hard to be patient. :)

The Linux client is being developed by icculus (also responsible for Linux Google Earth). He's not prepared to comment on his secondlife work.

Sorry for the lack of updates. We have switched to another developer to work on the linux client. Hopefully, we should have another client to give out in the next couple of days with many issues resolved.

Over the next few weeks we will be pushing out linux client fixes (orthogonal to the other client updates). This may become confusing with the version numbering, since the client version will need to be the same to connect to the main grid. We will probably end up tacking on the internal revision number to each tarball.

After a few weeks we hope to run the client changes by our internal QA, and bump the client up to 'beta', if all goes well.

Maybe a) putting a letter at the end of the version number of the tarball or b) simply a posting date on the download page will help keep things straight.

Of course it will by tricky for LL to see WHICH Linux Client is in use...

so a sane (if boring) alternative may be to simply add changes to the linux cleint ONLY when a new client / preview version comes out. That would make the version tracing lots easier, especially for bug tracking...

Whatever happens, I a SO delighted! /me jumps into the air, shouting Woot! :D

See Don's post, Icculus isn't developing SL anymore.
