Usually cannot connect from any workstation or viewer version

Every 1 in about 50 tries I can connect to SL. Usually I just wait a few hours and try again, but jeez...

I'm using Ubuntu Linux 2.6.20 and 2.6.23 Feisty and Gutsy, and SLViewers 1.18.5.3 and 1.18.6.2 (firstlook).

One system is an AMD64 6000 X2 with an NVidia 8800GT PCIE, the other is an AMD64 Sempron 3xxx with an NVidia 6150 Go.

The 'good' one (my workstation) is on SIS Internet at my home.

The laptop is also on SIS Internet from my work. (SIS Internet is the ONLY highspeed in this town.)

Connection time-out after 40010 ms <- probably a connection issue

first test that DNS is querying properly

$ dig login.agni.lindenlab.com

that will output a lot of junk but were looking for this which verifies it resolved that address:
;; ANSWER SECTION:
login.agni.lindenlab.com. 0 IN A 64.154.223.117

then try to ping the server
$ ping login.agni.lindenlab.com

That will test the basic connectivity. There may be something with your ISP that blocks the traffic SL uses. Best to start from the ground up and test the ability to get to the login server.
