When the viewer is minimized the process appears to lock up completely. CPU usage goes to zero (unlike the 1.13.3.2 release) and restoring the window gives a black screen. The last line in the console reads:
2007-02-23T17:25:20Z INFO: handleActivate: Muting audio on minimize
Once this happens, minimizing and restoring again doesn't output anything on the console. Clicking the close window button ('X') is ignored as is an interrupt on the console. Using xkill on the window also does nothing other than making the window disappear (I must still kill the process). The process state shows "SLl+" (sleeping, locked mem pages, multi-thread & foreground) and wchan is "stext".
Also note that minimizing/restoring is fine before logged in, it's only afterwards that it will hang.

I also see this, not only that if i open another application to full desktop size it stops the client drawing any more graphics.
If the render window is completly hidden or obscured then it crashes.

minimize or other virtual console freeze
03-05-2007 09:28
me allso it allso freeze when you push from a virtual deskto to another
doesnt happen in beta ..
I think it is iresponsable from linden house not to implement it in the main grid
I tried to hack the beta version but the version seemt to be hardcoded
the way lindens treat linux users is iresponsable

Still occurring on latest client
03-30-2007 07:57
This freezing problem still occurs on the release client (1.14.0.0) but does NOT occur with the FIRSTLOOK client (1.13.4.5974 . The FL client will eventually die if left minimized too long or minimized frequently but the release client locks up immediately. UPDATE: This is apparently an issue with ALSA since disabling it seems to be a valid workaround. I've run into problems with other applications conflicting ALSA vs. ARTS so it's possible this may be related but that still doesn't explain why the FL client appears to be unaffected nor why it's triggered by minimizing or otherwise covering up the client's screen.

Another "me too", but I also see this, but only on my ATI X300 system. This doesn't occur with my Nvidia system.

From: Digital Digital Hmm, I am not experiencing this issue. Me either, there has been issues with ALSA and that's what it sounds like it may be related to. I suggest those having problems with freezes and the last command being the audio to do a search of this linux forum for the ALSA related discussions.
