It was a valiant effort at least. I have a purring little VIA Unichrome onboard video card on my desktop. Stop laughing; I'm poor. So DRI is working beautifully, OpenGL/GLU/GLX is working nicely, so I thought I'd give SL another shot. No dice though. Damn you ATI and nVidia with your proprietary market strangulation!

As you can see, everything seems kosher (besides the video card), but still SL can't find its dear 800x600x32. I have that mode enabled in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and I can swivel between several 800x600 modes using xvidtune, but no matter what mode I'm in it always says "couldn't find matching GLX visual" I'll have to give up for now, but hopefully one day I'll be able to play!

That glxinfo shows that your GL drivers are only offering 16 bit modes. You're either running your desktop in 16 bits (in which case try 24/32 bits in your X config), or your hardware only support 16 bits (in which case you're out of luck).
