Cpu and Ram not being detected which may be causing low gfx mem reporting and loss of some features in graphics prefs

Also copy doesnt seem to work so cant grab the txt from the about secondlife window

I think I'm having the same problem. The game has me set to 16MB video ram, and will not allow me to change it. I'm wondering if I can tweak the settings.ini file. There's a line like this:

GraphicsCardMemorySetting 0

Wonder what the possible values are?

My videocard's 128MB is being detected as 16MB. I don't know what size SL thinks my system RAM is.

How is your cpu/ram displayed in the about secondlife dialog

Also the variable for the option above are

GraphicsCardMemorySetting 0 for 16Mb
GraphicsCardMemorySetting 1 for 32Mb
GraphicsCardMemorySetting 2 for 64Mb
GraphicsCardMemorySetting 3 for 128Mb
GraphicsCardMemorySetting 4 for 256Mb
GraphicsCardMemorySetting 5 for 512Mb

The video memory detection functions are not hooked up, yet.

Now is the use of it in the code so we can change it in the config file? Or should we just leave it alone right now? any try it and see any changes?

Changing it here seems to be working. Mousing over stuff makes it go ahead and get the most detailed texture it can and then it stays that way (unlike in 16Mb mode where it almost immedaitely de-rezzes the texture when you mouse over something else)

settings.xml

The settings file has recently been changed over to XML, so you want to look for settings.xml now. It still has the same stuff inside. And yes, the video card memory detection still doesn't work, so you'll have to set it manually.

In the untarred directory structure, it is at this location relative to the directory of the secondlife binary:
SecondLife/user_settings/settings.xml
