bin/secondlife-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libvorbisenc.so.2

This is the error I get when trying to launch the latest version of SL.
I claims it "cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Yet

I am on 64bit Kubuntu but the version of SL before this one worked fine.

same error here, 64-bit Ubuntu. looks like I have the needed file, SL just can't find it...

Thanks Gabriel - was just about to say, I tried that and it got rid of my libvorbisenc error (but I get a new error: createContext: window creation failure. SDL: Couldn't find matching GLX visual )

Also, I was looking at other posts and people are talking about SecondLife/user_settings/settings.xml - I don't even have that file. All I have is SecondLife/user_settings/placeholder.dat.

Regarding that ubuntuforums post - I checked and I have Load "glx" in my xorg.conf. I can't do the other part of it because it's an nvidia app (I'm using an ATI card). Also, glxgears works.

When you mentioned glxgears, it reminded me of something, and I wonder if it's related. The ati supplied fgl_glxgears doesn't work unless you use frame buffer object mode:

I had been ignoring this problem because other stuff works - I play UT2k4 all the time, and I've tested a few other OpenGL games, and OpenGL screensavers work.

im fairly certain that if u get rid of the drivers supplied by ati and instead use the ubuntu ones, it should fix it.

step 1 is the ubuntu ones, step 2 is the ati ones. if you want to install step one which I think should fix the problem, although im not sure performance wise how they compare (id think they arent too different), you need to first uninstall "linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r)", and "xorg-driver-fglrx" and reboot. Then follow the instructions for step 1.
