I recently installed Linux (so most of the things obvious to experienced users will need explanation).
When I installed and ran Second Life for the first time, Voice worked well. However after using it a few times Voice stopped working. As the readme said, I looked for ~/.asoundrc to backup and delete, but could not find it on my hard drive. I went ahead and installed the latest version of ALSA, but that didn't change anything.
Can anyone help me reclaim my voice?

I forgot to mention, when I do run voice in sl, only I am listed in the active speakers box and the viewer constantly reconnects the voice system.

From: Sanny Szymborska I forgot to mention, when I do run voice in sl, only I am listed in the active speakers box and the viewer constantly reconnects the voice system. Yeah, mine too. Never have gotten voice to work under Linux. I spent a few hours one day trying every suggestion I could find. Don't know why, but it just doesn't work.

If you're trying to run it under KDE, your problem could be arts (KDE sound system). Arts is crappy and doesn't work right for networked sound.
I put together a how-to a while back (targeted at openSUSE, but it might give ideas for other distros) on my website:
for making voice work under Linux.
I also have a jira open for 64-bit Linux sound issues:
Hope this helps.
