Using Dapper drake release 6.06
I extract the files

Run ./secondlife

it comes up with.

./secondlife
bin/secondlife-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've installed the libSDL

still the same, any ideas

What version?

Do you have the **correct version** of the library? Does it have the **correct file name**? Both are important sometimes. :)

Bit more system info? Is the system 32bit or 64bit? SL needs to have all it's required libraries 32bit. It may be best to look for the files it needs as 32 bit, download them and place them in the secondlife/lib so not to taint your system.

Extract the file from the rpm, sometimes you have to get the rpm extension through synaptic. Decompress the rpm, put the needed files in secondlife/lib

Get Rid Of 64 bit

I also have AMD 64 procesor but i use the Ubuntu 32bit version, the problems you are having are the teething problems of 64 bit platforms. I running Second life fine, until today lindenlabs have added an update and i can't seem to get to the game now.

SL will work in full 64bit linux just fine so long as the libraries it needs are 32bit, they can be downloaded and copied to secondlife/lib. Be sure NOT to put 32 bit libs required by SL in your system library directories, this will cause serious problems for your system!

SL does not understand 64bit libraries at this time, but the 32 bit client will run just fine.

Even on 32bit systems SL requires some libraries that are not supplied with the client or in a default system, sometimes it is best to provide these libraries only to SL and not the entire system. Becareful of tainting your system.

This is all good information, but could someone please post the direct link to the package that contains the needed libs? I have downloaded what I think are few different rpms of the 32 bit versions of libsdl but the installer say they are not for my system and I can not figure out how to unpackage them to move theminto the SL folder.

As a reletive Linux newbie I would have to agree with Tuber Potato, as I too am running 64bit Ubuntu 6.06 and get the exact same error as the origonal poster.

What are the libs?
Where do I get them?
How do I install them?

I did finally get the libs. Once you have them, you put them int yout SL folder/libs/

I would love to post the individual lib files here, but I cant it seems... IM me in game, and I'll get them to you somehow

Where to put libraries?

I`d suggest putting them into Second Life`s own lib directory [it already has one of its own] so as to not confuse anything else.
