I hope this is an appropriate place for an idea concerning improving the usefulness of groups.
I would like to propose that each group has a shared inventory area which becomes accessable to members of that group.
Officers of the group (and/or people with a particular capabality flag for the group, if that's the way group roles are going) have read/write access to this inventory area, while normal members have read-only access to the inventory area which works like the existing 'Library' folder.
The group shared inventory would appear as a top-level folder like the 'Library' and 'My Inventory' folders.
Motivation: 1) One of my groups is a themed-builders group with the problem of disseminating new free item and clothing builds, and their updates, to members of related groups interested in the theme, without going through the chore of dedicating land space to a freebie shop, boxing up every new build and update, and relying on interested parties to discover and bother to browse the freebie shop regularly (doesn't happen). Sharing and discovering builds should be as easy as browsing an inventory folder. 2) I maintain a very large free welcome-pack designed specifically to be of interest to new participants of a particular major SL subculture and enhance their SL experience. As well as chronic issues of discovery and spreading updates, in this case the welcome-pack is much too large (and hierarchically organised!) to box/vend in the first place, meaning that I manually individually inventory-drop sixteen folders (because of the give-limit) full of organised goodies to each newbie who signs up at my freebie-vendor. I could simply maintain a group shared-area instead (indeed, many of those who discover my vendor have already joined one of the few main related subculture groups, if nothing else).

Providing this "Shared Inventory Folder" can only house objects that are copy/transfer enabled.... I think this is a fantastic idea

This is a fabulous idea with the provision that items rezzed out of a group inventory folder belong to the rezzor and simply be shared with the group. The rezzor needs permissions for object; if it's group owned, the rezzor will not be able to do anything with it.
The idea as we submitted lo those many years ago was:
add agroups folder to the root of everyone's inventory; create a named folder in the asset server for each created group; add (make available) the named folders for each group a resident belongs to; grant officers the option of allowing all members to save to the folder or not.
This idea will certainly be thrown into the mix when the group groups meet this week.

I haven't seen this spoken about much in the meetings so far but as some one who has delt with themed sims in the past and the need for dissemination of textures or objects to all in a group this would be a welcome addition. I do hope this is brought up and discussed as part of the possible provisions for groups. This feature would benifit community as well as business based groups.
