Donate Tier to Individual in addition to Group?

I was reading the notes from the meetings - Robin/Jeska/Daniel appeared to indicate that one of the things that was being worked on, was a way to designate land permissions to a group - without actually deeding the land to the group.

That sounds kinda cool - I can think of some great uses for that already!

But, in my situation - I've had folks approach me before, wanting to make a donation of Tier instead of a donation of cash. The land for the Shelter is all in my name - not group owned... so I've never been able to accept tier donations, as much as I'd like to.

Why can't we 'donate' tier to individuals in addition to groups if we choose to? Wouldn't that add in a bunch of flexibility?

I wouldn't expect any kind of 10% tier bonus or anything for an "Individual" tier donation - but from my perspective, it would be one more new way of potentially offsetting costs.

Thoughts?

This has the potential to be ultrabused.

How so, Bertha? Could you give a sinister example? :D

I guess what I was thinking of - was that its common for some folks to have odd snippets of tier remaining. Say you wanted to purchase a plot of land that would send you 32m over tier... and I had 32m to spare. I could 'donate' my extra unused 32m to you.

The catch is - I could remove that 32m at any time from you too, since its my tier. Unless you collected *more* than 32m as a float, my removal of tier could create a hardship on you. Is that the sort of thing you were thinking of?

This would also have implications that might make general savings and loan type banking easier in SL.

I understand about if someone decides to remove her own donated tier, it's gone.

I was referring to the possibility that someone could find a bug before anyone else did, and take advantage of it, thus giving her alt lots of extra land. And with plenty of alts out there, who knows what could happen?

This has the potential to really mess with the economy bigtime.

There are already multitudinous bugs in SL, including one which I heard about where adults can visit the Teen Grid. (Don't ask me how, I don't know how it is done.)

Gah - I feel like I'm disagreeing with everyone today

With full respect to your opinion, Bertha... I'm not sure that the posibility that a new feature might include bugs is a compelling enough reason not to introduce it in the first place.

If that were the prevailing philosophy, I'd think we'd never have any new features introduced at all - especially around here. :D
