Hi everyone. I came up with an idea for a teaching tool to visualize in 3D some aspect of zen teaching. For this I need a little help from everyone who have a few minutes of spare time and the Linden necessary to upload textures.

What I need are texture with text. The text must be about an everyday "object of the mind" and a short description of it...

Here's some examples of what I mean:

Object of the mind: Need to be kinder to my neighbour.
Description: Give help whenever I can.

Object of the mind: That bird song I heard this morning.
Description: cool morning on the patio, sipping coffee.

You get the idea. Anything ordinary that pops up in your mind during any normal day of your life. Or anything extra-ordinary. Anything.

Make a texture, just put the text into a picture, the object of the mind part being prominent and the description under it. Then upload it . The perms on the texture need to be all on (full perms).

You can see why I need help on this one, the more different object I put into this, the more effective it will be. This can amount to hundreds of textures (if participation is good), and at $L10 per upload, that would be too much for my little budget.

I will put up an example in world on my land tonight for anyone to see. I'll put the location clearly in my "picks", in my profile.

Anyone is invited to participate, not just the members of our group.

To avoid any repeats of similar subjects, Please post the ones you made here, so that everyone can consult and not send a subject that was already made.

May this project help all sentient beings attain freedom from suffering.

Gassho.

Let's talk about this at informal get-togethers

Pratyeka -- This could be something that Buddhists of SL could talk about at informal weekly or twice-weekly get-togethers. I've been thinking lately that I don't really feel any connection with other members of the group, and that really, really informal get-togethers at the various Buddhist sites around SL might help, plus it could help get projects like yours off the ground.

Nothing fancy -- no agendas -- just a half-hour of chatting, catching-up, introducing ourselves to each other. Of course, timing will likely be a challenge given that some people are in the U.S., others in Europe, so a weekend time might work best for all. And the times could move around -- sometimes it could be a good time for U.S. people, others for European folks.

Know what I mean?

Just a thought --

Informal get-together are nice for rapid feedback and I enjoy them as much as the next person. But the major drawback is the different time zones most people are located in. It's near impossible to have major get-together with max number of participants because of that.

Also as I said in the above post, if all participants would post their contribution here, we would have a reference list and avoid redundent subjects.

So how about next Wednesday at 4pm SL time for the next get-together? My place in Weber. Find it in my picks, in my profile.

Pratyeka, I went to see your example....pondered it for a bit......and wondered how
they might be used. Being new, texturing and inserting text into them are things I might
need a bit of help with.

Nate, Your idea of really informal get-togethers is a good one. I don't talk much and
chatting in a large group is a bit too much input for me at times.
I'm more a 'friend of buddhists' rather than being
interested in the dogma....kind of an agnostic blend between Taoist and Buddhist,
although when distressed by life, it is the Eightfold Path I reach to for clarity.

Look forward to meeting you all around SL, Tai

Well, it's a very difficult concept to describe in words. I want to build an animated representation of what goes on in someone's intellectual mind during zen meditation. The end result would work a bit like a video game of the puzzle kind, not of the "shoot them up" kind.

Mind objects are what the intellectual mind uses to represent things, objects, events, concepts, ideas, anything that you may think up.

the idea is still taking shape in my mind. What I need is a way to make text appear on the surface of prims, at random, and a way to control the duration, frequency of change, etc... The words would be taken from a list.

I'm near illiterate concerning scripting... so...

In case anyone was going to show up at my planned informal meeting tonight, don't bother. The latest update has rendered any activity impossible on my land, and from what I read in the forums, pretty much anywhere in SL.

Will try again another day.

What does this have to do with Zen? Help me out here. Not meaning to be critical...but I just don't see the connection.

/answer in the relative mode/
Neal, I can't explain it better than what I've already posted above. It's just a visualisation of thought processes during zen meditation. This would be something useful for people who have no experience of zen meditation.

/answer in the absolute mode/
Everything is zen.

Have fun!
