It is our lives that are the simulacrum, all of our lives and existance; we are all imagined characters existing solely in the dreams of the cup. When the cup awakens, we will simply cease to exist, and in actuality the cup is half full and half empty as explained here. But I believe that the most important part is WHAT the cup is 1/2 full of - delicious pecan pie.
