I am attending a con and was wondering what activities or discussions could be introduced to make it a fun event for people. I have been to some panel discussions on "ethics" in online gaming and it always shifts to "how Blizzard Entertainment screwed up my billing." Which I don't consider part of the topic.

I always pictured somewhat of a caricature of such an event, much like that whic h is initially portrayed in the web-tv show The Guild.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some non-virtual poseball action that occurs though...

Back in the online dark ages when BBSs reigned our local one had monthly "Get Togethers / GTs." Usually we booked some pizza place/banquet hall, rented parks in the summer. They were alot of fun, of course everyone was from somewhere nearby and everyone knew everyone in many ways. The halloween ones were a lot of fun. Contests, raffles, auctions, whatever.... Generally family friendly events, but anything could happen from the amazing to the absurd. Then there were the after GT parties... Ive made many friends and business contacts through my dealings online. Some of my best friends today I might have not met if it werent for those GTs.

Meetups can be a lot of fun if done right...
