HI you guys from Utah state, having fun in SL, lets try to meet and have fun in RL too... Why not try to get to know each other and try to help us grow, and be stronger in SL... Maybe in RL too... If we have more than 3 active members, I will create a SL group for Utah residents only, and we will have some land too, to enjoy in SL...

Hello
11-01-2006 07:14
Just tried this game yesturday. Spent all day trying to figure out how to make things as thats what I mostly want to do in the game. I'm a creator and I want to BUILD! having some knowledge of scripting I feel I may be of some use to a group. Learning this game is a little challenging though. I am a Utah person living close to Salt Lake. unsure if there are any others in Utah who are also connected but would be nice to form a group and assist each other out side of the computer box. Let me know.

Hi Virgil

Yes there are alot of us from Utah - at least 40-50 people that I know. However, they are in SL, not here in this frum yet, but we working in bringing them here too. You too, you can promote anf ivite your friends in SL and in this forum too, so we can get together sometimes. The main goal is to try to be a strong group, with a strong presence in SL, and to try to help each other.
So let's keep in touch. Have fun and enjoy SL.

Friend?
11-03-2006 06:55
Sadly I don't have any friends in Second life. I just started and am still trying to figure things out and learn my way around. As I mentioned, I do have scripting knowledge so I have high intentions of being an inventor. That may come quite handy for someone looking for a crafter/creator such friend. I believe my main goal in the game will be to build and construct. The scripting does not look too difficult being that it is close to C ## so I am sure I won't have a challenge picking up on it quickly.
My Real life friends are a bit tied on the Worlds of Warcraft game and I highly doubt they will ever consider Second Life. The game is a bit clunky and does remind me of a bad Barbie doll nightmare but for some odd reason I find myself logging in. So because of the odd world that Second Life is, my real life friends will not be joining me, and depending on how things go for me, I may or may not stay as well. It would be nice to get aquanted with some friends and become part of a group.
As far as the Salt Lake area, I'm only twenty minutes south of that area so meet ups would be very possible for me if ever one is decided. You'll just have to let me know and keep me informed.

HI Virgil, again...
11-08-2006 00:07
Hi again... Don't worry about friends Virgil, if you will log in SL and be in-world, on line and ready to "meet" new people, in short time you will have a long list of friends, people like you and me, that enjoy SL... I would love to "meet" you in-world, and maybe we can try to do something in the near future... If you know how to build is great, (or you can learn if you're not a master in building and textures), and if you can do scripts, also it is great... There are nice and fun ways to enjoy SL... Not to mention, from time to time, we all can make some little money (L$) as a reward for doing what we enjoy while we have fun... So, let's try to meet on line... I will be on line this next 2 weeks after 11:00 pm SLT (or midnight in our time).... I am busy in my RL too, but I do enjoy to be in SL, when I have time... I have alot of land, and maybe we can work together... Just have fun, enjoy, and try to learn how to build and how to do scripts in the mean time... See you in SL soon... P.S. I will send you an invitation, so you can join our group in-world. That way we can keep in touch much easy... From: Virgil Stapleton Sadly I don't have any friends in Second life. Hook me up on a friend list or something... Kind of feel like I am running around in this game alone and could use some friends to help me understand a little more about this strange world and what there is really to do. I don't find myself logging in as much anymore because I just feel like a complete outcast, so if I can feel like I am of some use and feel like I am a valued addition to someone then maybe I could get a little more into this sort of game. Just difficult to get motivated with this sort of game when I've been used to other online games where you have creatures to do battle with, a character to build up and still have that option to socialize... So to me, I'd kind of like to know if there is more to this game then running around saying hello to a bunch of people in hopes someone will befriend you. The only answer I've recieved when I ask people what there is to do in this game is, "Have sex". Well, I can do that in real life and its more enjoyable then feeling like I need to get off on some pixel crap. No offense to those who can, if its your thing then great, but for me it just doesn't make sense when rather then trying to get laid in a game I could be getting laid in real life.
So if there is more to this game please let me know. I've always wanted to play a western style online game with saloons and gambling but it feels like programers and companies these days are very set on fantacy style settings. This game looks like it might have that potential with some creative thinking and some good brains put together. And with good Utah knowledge and some historical buildings still in existance here, with some research and visitation to these locations if we all worked on it we could pull it off. Unsure if anyone else in the game has tried this, but I think it might be an interesting try.
Look me up and keep me in contact.
I need friends!!

HI Virgil
11-14-2006 02:12
Well there is alot more in this game than having (stupid) cyber sex... Agree with you on this, it's much, much better in real life... Well here we have the option to build, or to do our little part and to build our little corner in this 3D world. So if you wanna have fun, 1st try to learn how to build, then (I hope) you will find joy in how beautiful your creations are... (not to mention, as a little reward, you may be able to make a little money L$ by seling your creations, asuming they are nice and people will like them, and will be ready to pay a "price" for them) So again, building can bring you joy. (not like the joy of winning a "last man standing" match) This is a mature game, this is not a war/shooting/strategy game. All tho, there are combat areas in the game, where you can fight, but this is not the point of the game. Anyway, I was busy in real life, and I was not able to be on line so much, and still I'm kind of busy, but I will send you an invitation to my group/business on line, and you can join. Then, if we have the chance to be on line same time, we can try to "meet" on line, and I'll show you few things around. Friends will be, they will come, maybe more than you want at one point in time. But in time. Now if you have time to be on line, and be active, then yes, you will socialize with good, nice people around you (not just stupid kids, playng cyber sex). But you have to be on line and active. By active, I mean - again - building, creating something unique and special, that will get attention... It's not easy... Keep in mind, any avatar you meet and talk to in-world, is in fact a real person. Try to be selective, and separate the junk from real players... There is no perfect solution for this, but - again - if you are on line and active, in time you'll figure out how to do this... Also, if you have "no payment on file", and you look and act like a newbie, noone will trust you... And this will keep good quality people away from you... But if you learn how to build, and then build something, and show to the world what you can do, then the world will like to know who you are, to get to know you better, and if you'll play your cards right, you will earn respect and reputation... And in time you will grow, as a person, as a character, the one you are and play in this 3d world... As you can see, I don't say "game", I say 3D world...This is not a game... It is more, it is a second life, a fantasy/extension of our first life... It is not easy... This is the challenging part... This is what makes this 3D world fun and special... Don't give up... But if you have no patience, or your goal is just to have a bunch of friends on your list, then maybe this is not for you... I was under the impression you have some skils, and you want to use them. Are you ready to build? Do you know how to build? Do you know how to make nice, beautiful things? Maybe with a western flavor... Why not, it's a good idea, in fact it is a GREAT IDEA... But do you know how to build, let's say a saloon, or let's say a motel, or a shopping mall with western flavor??? If you do, if you think you can do it, I have some work for you. I have in-world a business.. (and I am not joking, it is a business designed by a real life business model) I am bulding a new shopping mall now... I can pass this project to you, if you can make it with a western flavor... But are you ready? Do you know how to build? Are you up to the challange? Think about all of this, and maybe we can "meet" on line, in-world, maybe in the next week-end.
Hope to hear from you soon... Don't give up... (all tho, it's up to you...)

Building
11-14-2006 06:29
I've done quite a bit of playing around with the building portion of the game and I am sure I can pick up on it rather well. It would be nice to know of some better locations to practice some of this though so I can get better at it. The scripting in this game does not look too difficult and seems very C## related so I am sure I can pick up on it quickly. I'm not going to say I am an expert builder but I hope one day I will be. I have a ton of creative thinking and am sure I can put it to good use once I figure things out more. The helpful part would be learning more how to play this game. I feel there are little tips and tricks that people know that I don't. So learning the mechanics is something I feel I need to pick up on before jumping into more advanced things.

Hi again...

Yes Virgil, it looks you get the idea about building and scripting. If you have some basic 3D and C++ skils, you can learn fast this game, and be good about it. Few areas where you can learn and practice building are "sandbox" and also "Ivory Tower". You can run a search by places in your menu... Now to learn it's up to you, how fast, and how well, only you are the one to decide for yourself... Nobody will spend time with you, just to teach you how to do this, or to share secrets on how to do this or that. I'm just honest with you, you need to put in time and work, you need to be on line and practice like we all do. I think you can do it, but it's up to you. If you want fast results, only you know how fast you can learn. Bottom line, you have to be on line and practice, as much as you can. And if will bring you joy then this is second life. If this in not the kind of joy you're looking for, still this is second life, but maybe it's not the best for you... If you enjoy building and creating nice things, and show those things to the people, then here is the perfect place... You know better what works best for you. If you are on line, and work, and practice, you will be in touch with people like you, with same goals, you will exchange ideas and tips, and this is how you'll build friendships too. You'll find and meet those people like you, in those places, sandbox, and Ivory Tower, and few more. If we have the chance to "meet" on line, I will present you one or two other builders, like you, beginers, that are still learning... Same goals, (to learn), same desire (to build and to be good about it), same projects (working for my business), and easy, you can become friends, and learn from each other. But you need to be on line, and you need to be active.
Hope to see you in-world. Take care...

Another one from Utah
12-06-2006 10:21
Okay, I'm not on much, but was interested in seeing how many people really played this from Utah. I moved here from Tennessee and have been playing this for about 9 months now. I wanted others in Utah to know they weren't alone. I'm a programmer by day and SL builder/scripter by night. So we can put a lot of fun things together Virgil. I have been building things in SL for friends now for a while so if you need help, (I'm no professional) but I can help if you have questions.
I'm with Virgil, most of my friends would never play this because they just want to conquer and kill monsters. Look me up folks, I'd love to actually have friends that were in my neck of the woods. Live 15 mins from SLC.

I'm not in Utah now, but lived in Salt Lake City for twelve years, including the nineties. I've also lived in Provo for about three years in the eighties. I love the idea for an area with a western style setting and possibly some role play elements and combat. If you're doing Victorian period, you can see how far that idea can go by going to look at the Caledon sims. Anshe Chung had a western style village set up at one point, including a saloon, but it never did gather a habitual crowd of which I am aware, and it was a little too raunchy with escorts involved. However a PG type club in a Mature sim (think the Blarney Stone in Dublin for an example) can succeed in getting a steady crowd if there's a committed clique of DJs/hosts willing to show up often. Just some ideas for what's gone before you... coming close to what would work. Good luck.

Hey All
12-08-2006 00:31
Just wanted to say hello!! I'm in Utah, around the West Jordan area. Still getting used to SL and meeting people. If you see me around, say hello! And, if this group gets up and going, I'd love to be apart of it.

Hi Brandon...
06-23-2007 01:53
I am glad you joined SL, and our group... Me too I had the chance to live in Memphis, TN, and I love it at that time... However I landed in Salt Lake City, UT, from Long Beach, CA... And I like here so far... Me too, I am not on line in SL as I would like to be, but I really enjoy it Same time I have a land & investment business in SL that I have to run, so sooner or later, I am on line in SL... You said you have some building and scripting skills, and that you're ready to try to be part of some projects... Well I have at this time a parcel, about 4200-4400 sqm, with 2000 prims available, and maybe we can come up with something nice and fun... I have few ideas, but same time I am open to any suggestions... If you have time, and you're available, please let me know... Feel free to IM me anytime in world, or PM me here in this forum... I am not on line quite every single day, but I will answer ASAP...
P.S. I was even thinking to open in real life our own website, and forum, SL related - I have some resources and connections in web solutions and web hosting area - so if you would like to be part of it, you are more than welcome... again just let me know...
