No interesting events anymore

Very sad - there are no events of interest anymore. If you have a look on the calendar you may cry:

Its definately dead - nothing of interest. Just boring.

Where are the interesting places without the casinoes and sex clubs? Where is art, culture, education? Where is the real UNDERGROUND like in my town (RL) at the railway station? Is there anything else? Why should I spent time in second life? Real live has more interesting things. I'll just go out for a dinner with my friends - yes - and eat something. And hear what they say, not just read. After this I'll go to a museum of modern art (RL) and really see something interesting. Not just commerce and sex and casinoes. And - mention it - they show more than clothes, tatoos and new faces...

If your first life is more interesting, then really, why should you be in second life?

You sound as though you are burnt out and need time away from SL. I hold interesting events all the time - hard to get people to come.

I do agree that the $exlife of $econdlife has ruined events.
But surely that is a reason to find people and pull them together. Outcast the casino etc.

Well I have just made a venue. Pop in and have a look it is barren at the moment. In the East of Primrose a big brick warehouse. Plan on having a number of events. Have some very interesting Real Life characters I am just booking in. Wondering if it is best to stream RL gigs into SL or do custom SL gigs. Plan on looking at both.

Please feel free to join my group and give me some input on it all Music Towers is the name. Cheers and RL is excellent... SL just is a new frontier isn't it? I always think of it as the 'Crap Matrix'.

You're going to all the wrong places. I joined at the end of January and go to wonderful events - poetry and fiction open mics at the Blue Angel at least twice a week, writers discussion and workshop groups. I'm now involved in organising the first SL Book Fair on April 20-22 which will bring together publishers and writers from SL and RL and there are free stands to encourage everyone to join in. We aren't having any trouble attracting people to the venue - Publishing Village by Vision Paperbacks. You don't have to be a writer or publisher. There are great discussions hosted by Vision regularly and Penguin also have a group to discuss books. You're lost in the wrong places - I wonder what you put in the search box when you search for events! I've met wonderful people here - and I have a great social life in RL plus work so it's not as if I needed it. Hope you find the good things.

I agree with the comment on live music too. I've been invited to Towers events because I'm in the Wicked Karma radio group. It's good to see independent musicians from SL getting an outlet. I love to hear original singer songwriters. Places like SL do help the underground - we don't have to listen/read commercial stuff that major record labels and publishers invest in. I rarely see the sex industry or casinos on SL - I'm busy elsewhere. It's massive and has all things if you look for them.

It is true well I mean I know your point but we should not leave 1st life behind or think that this is gonna be that exciting. I have found tho that some classes are great or just go to a learning center like partical lab or ivory tower and learn to create stuff on your own is cool

There's also a lot going on for sporting events. Our island has an active hockey league just about to start its 3rd season. There is a full-fledged soccer league being started up too. Holly Kai is a freakin gorgeous island with a full golf course.

I've been to some splendid concerts lately and learned how to sail. I'd go golfing but no courses are in my price range...I need to get one of the grandchildren here to take Grandma. ...oh I also went to a very lovely exhibit for a SL artist. I was a little miffed that I could not get into the 4th SL BD party.

I thought that this was just a failure of search in general. That the event listings are so spammed (because search is screwed and they've essentially become a free form of advertising) that few use them anymore and as a result someone running an event has difficulties getting the details out to a broad audience. The Lindens need to follow through on their promise, clean up Events once and for all and then maybe sl won't 'seem' so boring.

Thats not every event that is listed at 10PM on a weeknight. Long term players get jaded very quickly and the simply events, yardsales and gaming events no longer interest them. Yes we all have 'been there, done that'. So instead of insisting that Linden Lab remove the low brow 'events' that you do not want to attend - then create a group that develops a rolling event series that would appeal to the more long-term SLer. That would of course call for you doing more than posting here about it. But it may be worth the extra work.

Wellllllll yes..... But if you look at the event listing offen you see simlar occurances daily.
You call these events? Thats my point. At times I don`t even look at the event listing anymore because they are full of yard sales, Slingo and others like it.....
maybe its time to rethink how events are posted and have multi sigment types of events like gaming, yard sales .etc..........If this is what Jesse linden is allowing then just change the posting rules altogther.

I think SL, like RL is what you make it. If you aren't seeing the types of events you want to see, you aren't looking in the right places or networking with the right people.

Or maybe you just need a break from the game.

CAN WE CREATE A WEBSITE WHERE LEGIT, GENUINE EVENTS CAN BE POSTED AND READ BY PEOPLE LIKE US??? Why not!? There are tons of websites on everything-SL, why not this idea as well?
