Im just curious what people think about cameras at these meet ups? Does the thought of cameras scare you away? Are you afraid to voice your displeasure at the use of cameras at these gatherings? I think the meet ups are a good idea for those interested, Im just curious about what everyone feels about arriving and being photographed.
Personally, I would like to see and be seen at a local gathering, I think it would be fun. But, I dont necessarily want my picture plastered up on some website with food in my mouth or spilling a drink or something. I see it as a private gathering, if you want to see who went, then you need to show up yourself.
Do you think those with cameras will respect your wish to not have your picture posted somewhere? Or, do you think they would dismiss the request as silly and just think its your own damn fault for showing up and you should expect your pic to be used as they wish?
No one has brought this up that I am aware of and I am just curious how people feel.

At the amsteram meet i think wilder was the only one taking pics.. and when she did i just slowly backed away. But then again i do that all the time, i dont like pictures taken that much i guess. And it depends who was taking the picture... i MIGHT agree to get in a picture if its a group picture or something or the person taking the picture i knew wouldnt submit it to uglypeople.com

It's always nice to know if someone takes your picture and is going to show it to other. I know some that don't follow that rule and get mad if you take there picture...

No, I somewhat doubt they would respect your wishes. By turning up at said event it seems you're consenting to be plastered all over the web and ridiculed by your peers for your appearance. And yes, would be one of the main factors why I'd never attend such an event. Yes, there are some people in SL I'd like to meet, but I'd do so on my own terms, not at the public zoo to be gawked at, analysed, pigeon-holed and dismissed based on my rl appearance

If it were me with the camera, I'd think you were being silly and take your picture anyway. However I've never plastered anyone's picture anywhere on the internet without their permission.

I personally would love to take pics and/or get my picture taken. However, I would appreciate if someone asked for my permission before posting a pic of me and I would get permission before posting any of my pics. MJ

People aren't as polite about this stuff as they should be and if you go at all, you have to assume that your image will be hijacked. Also like Kris this is something taht would stop me going to a meet, but I might go if there were some kind of established rule in place about it. This so reminds me of the whole issue of taking pictures in SL as well. There was a long thread about that when I joined, the upshot being that to be polite, you should actually *ask* or at least tell people after the fact that you have taken their picture whether in RL or SL. I always do.

I showed people the shots after I took them on the digital camera and if anyone wanted to do it again, I erased the picture and took another. I took only close shots, except for a few room shots which showed backs only. I told people I would be showing the pictures at my school, Magnolia Beach Learning Center, in Guam. So not all photographers are direspectful.

I always do. True, also the reality is that anyone, anywhere can take your pic and post it anywhere on the web. I could go on vacation to Monterey and someone is taking pics and happens to catch me in one of their shots which opens me up to having my pic posted all over the web. I could get really paranoid about this but I'm not gonna let that keep me from leaving my home and going to fun events. MJ

I believe there should be three simple rules:
(1) Ask everyone in the photo first if they mind being taken. (2) Take into account some people may be okay with their pictures taken, but not with it being publically posted or having themselves identified. (3) PUT ALL CAMERAS AWAY ONCE BOOZE BECOMES INVOLVED!
Regards,
-Flip
