Hi there! I am a college senior majoring in interdisciplinary studies with technology emphasis. As the name suggests, my major integrates several areas of studies. My particular path emphasises human resource development, adult learning, communication, technology, business, and the integration of the above with each other etc.
One large area of focus right now in adult education is distance education, and SL can provide a very unique and interesting learning environment for that. has anyone worked on any training programs that can provide adults with useful real life skills and knowledge? I would love to be able to participate in a distance education program implemented within Second Life.

Hi Neogrinch,
You might want to contact Pathfinder Linden and get added to the SL Educators listserv.

My SL classes contain info regarding how to promote a successful event. RL events and SL events are very similar when it comes to promotion. I could see someone taking my SL class on promotion and being able to run a RL event.

Teazers University and some of the other institutes for SL learning often teach classes in Photoshop, Paintshop, and Poser software, all applicable to real world skills. Also you might talk to Universitate Linguistica or whatever the Esperanto group calls itself, they have big plans for language education, using the SL medium to make linguistic practices more interactive.
You'll find lots to involve yourself with. Also, a cool cat named MrY is working on a new medium in East Texas, at about 700M in altitude. He has many rl plans for education using this format.
Feel free to IM me in world if I can offer you any more ideas.

Healthy Disscussion

I am very happy to see such a healthy discussion in progress here. The flow of information here is exactly what we all need. Education is about teaching, sharing and caring. So I would like to applaude everyone of you, and thankyou for your input. If you all keep this kind of behaviour up and we will have no need for an abuse report system. I am so proud of you all!

This seems a good opportunity to point people to this resource for using SL for RL ed: simteach SL ED wikiAlso note there will be an education day at the SL Community Convention, on the Sunday. There is even a call for proposals. This was emailed to the educators list, but for anyone that missed it, check it out here: http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=SLCC06_Educators_Call_for_Proposals
