I want to use streaming video and audio in my SL classroom; small plot of land small number of prims. Any educators out there managing to use audio/video in the sl classroom? which device do you use to play it? Can you access urls of, say, the bbc world service from in SL? How can you show a youtube video? these questions and many more..... I found the freebies from edunation very useful-i am not a part of that organization and mention them as a good resource for teachers/educators in sl not as a plug. To teachers of English as a foreign language and of history in SL i would love to share ideas, see what works for you, interact and co-operate.

From: Stone Gynoid Can you access urls of, say, the bbc world service from in SL? How can you show a youtube video? You can't use YouTube videos in SL, not sure about the BBC world service. Videos in SL must be viewable using the Quicktime viewer so you must have Quicktime installed on your computer. You need access to the video's actual URL, not just the webpage that contains the video. To have control over what video is playing you must own the the parcel of land that holds the video screen. It is possible to use video on Group owned land if you deed your video object to the land's group, or use a specially scripted object that includes a Group Land 'remote control'. Here is a video that I just completed that explains the basics of how to use video in SL. http://www.shiny-life.com/2007/12/31/how-to-use-video-in-second-life/
