Let's say someone has a skill that is in demand. Or is a professional teacher. Or is willing to teach a three-hour seminar instead of a one-hour class. Would it be wrong to charge for that? Please tell me what you think.

Technically, you can't charge students AND get paid the L$500 from LL. They wouldn't like that. lol
If you're not on the Linden clock, I see no reason why you can't charge for what you're teaching. If it's not in demand you won't make any money, if it is in demand you will. Seems like personal preference to me. Some will want to charge, some won't. |

Well, I know you guys may not like my thoughts on this topic, but when I first joined Second Life, I was really impressed with how the game was so advanced. Back then, the Lindens use to announce when there was a building or any other useful class starting. I honestly thought how wonderful that was, the game masters of this game really cares about thier residents. Now, nearly 2 years later I still very much love this game and i'm still hooked on it. But, I think charging the residents a fee for them to attend a class is a bit much. Everyone in this game seems to be really consumed with getting rich and have forgotten how to just enjoy the game. A friend of mine has a small business and decided to post an Ad in the classified. The sad part is the more lindens you pay the higher your Ad will show on the list. It's all about the mighty dollar or should I say Linden.. ![]() Anyway this is a great topic, I hope I didnt offend anyone, if so i'm surry ![]() Tay ![]() PS: So that you will all know.. I'm not sure what option to pick, as it really depends on the situation.
I think it all depends on the class. The lindens only pay for 2 classes per day. Each class is approx an hour long so ok that covers 2 hours of that long seminar, but the third the instructor is basically doing for free if they don't charge something. What might be a good solution is to charge a nominal fee for high quality supplies (5-10L or something small per student but adds up to help the costs of running the seminar). All you'd have to do is break up the seminar into 3 parts and submit at least 2 of them in for class approval. Part of getting hte 500L from the lindens is that the class is free and open to all students so charging a cover charge wouldn't probably go over well with the Lindens - although it's been my experience students ARE willing to pay for quality supplies and classses. _____________________
