fashion designer!

Ya I was wondering what do I need to become a designer I wanted to make my own clothing is there a school in sl i can go to?

There are building classes for things like shoes and prim skirts in world...check the Events listings, the NCI class schedule, and the EventFul website (search on "Second Life" for classes and times. Also, follow the "Classes going on now" link on the SL viewer startup screen.

Besides building with prims, the technical aspect of clothing design involves learning how to seamlessly "wrap" a flat texture around a 3D avatar model. There are Photoshop templates for this, and you can download them from this website (see the Downloads link on the front page).

The other technical thing you need is some ability with Photoshop or a similar painting program. This is where you create the clothing textures, and match them to the avatar templates. There are tons of books, tutorials, and real world classes on this, but not all that much in SL itself.

Next, you need fashion sense...the artistic ability to see a trend before others do, and design for it.

Last, you need business sense. How to set up a shop, deal with finances, pricing, orders, customer complaints. Taxes (ugh!) How to advertise. Again, there are some SL classes that deal with SL-specific business issues. General business management books and classes won't hurt, either.

Lot of stuff, huh? But don't worry. Just take it a day at a time, try your hand at making a couple of things. If your friends like them, paying customers probably will too, so set up a vendor or a little shop somewhere, and you're on your way.
