I would like to know where we can find freebies to grab, maybe we can start a thread or continue adding here to locations where to take newbies to grab free stuff. I am preparing my location for freebies and a newbies shelter and for classes.

The Shelter's primary focus is Newbies, and has been for nearly the past year. We're not-for-profit, and we have a 'family' of sorts of regulars who hang out on a regular basis - all of which enjoy helping newbies.

There's a freebie table as you walk into the main area where many generous folks have donated items. There's also an exchange box where you can add items of your own if you feel so inclined :)

Most of the events we do are in the early evenings between 4pm-8pm, and are all 'G' rated. However, there are typically a few people hanging out regardless of the time - and if they're a regular, they know the drill already - make new residents feel at home and don't be afraid of questions :)

We have a standing Newbie Welcome Party at 4PM PST every day that's been going on since the Fall of last year. Its not always posted to the event calendar, but that doesn't mean that the gang isn't there ready & willing to say Hi & help out.

We're in the Northernmost section of the Isabel sim - feel free to come by for our Newbie Party, and decide for yourself whether its a condusive environment to make a new resident feel at home :)

Hi Paly :)

The New Citizen's Inc has a lot of freebies including clothes for men and women, helpful gadgets to tear apart and learn from, scripts as well as a 1L store that has mostly Starter Avatars and fun costumes.

There is also an information wall where they can click to get other info including free housing, where to classes are, money tree locations & more freebie areas including LM & info on The Shelter ;) *blowkiss Travis!*

The Helping HAND Kiosk (Noobie Yellow Pages) is there as well as a Welcome Kit that has helpful notecards like How To Get Stuff Out of Boxes and Kex's Lag Guide.

The New Citizens Inc (NCI) is located at Kuula (70, 172)
:D

I go to Find and type in Free and come up with more things than I can gather in a day.

Jai Nomad is almost finished with the Gnubie Store in Indigo sim. It will be a super low cost, creative shopping experience for newcomers. This is just a heads up - I will post again when it's completed.

I agree there should be some type of list or menu for a newbie to be able find help, guidance and freebies. There are many people who are more than willing to give their time and expertise to help them but there is nothing to direct a completely new and confused person to these 'helping' areas.

When I was a newbie, I 'stumbled' upon YadNi's Junkyard. There were no greeters in SL at the time nor could I find a Mentor (I take it back, there was one girl with the Mentor title but she was too busy angrily debating with someone. As a newbie, I didn't know what was going on and quickly removed myself from the area. I am not bashing Mentors, I am sure she had a good reason for doing so, but I was intimidated by the exchange and moved on to explore, on my own). Anyway, at the Yard I was lucky to run into a person who was willing to help, guide and teach me. I don't recall the exact words to me but they were something like: "...I hope you enjoy SL. In this game you can do almost anything you want. If you need help with anything, IM me and I will do what I can to make your experience in SL a good one. Whatever it is you want to learn, let me know. If I don't know or I can't teach it to you, I will find the one who can..." This was from a big bue guy who is not Mentor or Volunteer, just a guy who cares and takes the time to help those who 'stumble' upon him.

Also, not enough credit is given to these unofficial helpers. I did not visit any of these other places (which I am absolutely sure are just as wonderful) but I have to mention that YadNi was extremely helpful to me and helped me find my way in this absolutely wonderful 3D world named Second Life. Honestly, if it hadn't been for him, I wouldn't be in game today.

Hooray to ALL the unofficial guides and helpers. To YadNi for his patient help to anyone who asks. To his Junkyard for the awesome freebies donated by talented creators and the countless hours he spends sorting, labeling and packaging the hundreds of items he receives for the enjoyment of all who wish to take them to make their game experience a better one, like mine was. I applaud these kind hearts who are sadly underappreciated and unrecognized.
