I haven't had my greeter thing turned on for a while, for the reason I'm going to explain below, so forgive me if this has already happened..
Whenever I/we got a greeter reqest, all the notification I would get, would be a little bit of text with their name in it. I don't know about anyone else but I'm too afraid of missing that. If I have chat history open, if I land in an event or the welcome area with streaming chat..
Now my only problem is I can't find a solution to this without, probably work and an update, so I'll give you my dream solution..
A "Volenteer" profile tab. And under the greeter section would have all the people who have chosen you as their greeter, and you have a button that says "complete" or something, that'd remove them from that section.
The other thing I had a problem with, was getting soooo many requests a day.. I usually varied between 2 and 5.. I don't know about anyone else, but 1 kind of takes it out of me and my fingers, could there be a way to limit how many times we show up on the greeter page?
Another thing is, they hardly ever log on when you get their name.. Most of them not even that day, and when you finally do log on at the same time, they've had the crash corse of how to do stuff by flying around and being in Cordova for a little while..
Thats another thing but its in another thread, time zone specific greeters, so people can chose a greeter in their time zone, if they wish..
Sorry this is looooong, but I really want to be able to turn it on, but I can't help 1 person while letting the next 3 down..
Thoughts?

I do the same thing, I turned off my availability until such a time as there is a way for new residents to choose a greeter as the last thing they do before teleporting in-world for the first time.
At this point I find it more productive to be hanging out at the Info building in Dore and being there when newbies make their first rez in-world so that someone can answer their questions. There have been more than a few who missed connecting with their Greeter and it works out fairly well. If you are a Greeter with nothing to do and available, this is a great place to catch those that need your help.

I was worried someone would take one look at it and say "pfft Rant.. I'm not reading THAT!".. lol..

Discussed at both the recent Mentor and Greeter meetings was the new Help Island. Jeska said that everything will be in-client and new residents won't choose a Greeter until they are logged on and on Help Island. There won't be anymore in chat green text to worry about.
