Post HUD Feedback Here

The Greeter HUD has been re-released and should be working on Help Island. We have split up the Greeter group into two different databases/screens - so new Residents will only be able to choose you from one screen or another. If your first name starts with A-J you will have gotten a note and new HUD from me. Please let me know if you did not. Use this new HUD and please discard earlier versions, as they will not work. Be sure to read the notecard included with the new HUD!

Please note you do need to follow the directions included with the HUD carefully or they will not operate correctly. If you are having trouble getting your HUD to operate correctly, please be sure that you have followed all of the steps and that you are in a scripts enabled location.


Post any feedback you have about using the HUDs here - bugs, errors, weirdness, etc. Then we will be able to reproduce bugs and make further refinements!

Profile and picture still refuse to work for me,

Same here! I follow the instructions to the letter. I took the HUD off. Set it on the ground. Took it back.

I then use a SL Photo as my picture. It told me it was uploading my picture. The picture then appeared in the little box.

I dropped in my profile notecard. Uploaded it too.

Went to HI and looked at the board. My name and Michaels's was there, but no profile data.

Also, when opened HUD again. No picture in box.

Last night two newbies tried to choose me as a greeter and it told them I was unavailableand had the hud turned on.Tateru alerted me that they were trying to choose me so I got them otherwise I'd of not known to get them. I didn't get any notification.

I received an IM last night from someone who had tried contacting me through the HUD, through the Help Island panel.

I wasn't wearing the HUD at the time, because my name begins with L and I haven't received the new one yet.

Sadly, the HUD worked for me only on the very first day I tried it. It said it did upload the picture (but never the notecard), although I didn't manage to confirm this; and I got a "request" from a Mentor that what testing the Greeter Board out So, it worked fine!

From there on, uploading picture and/or image apparently does not work at all. For pictures I still get the "Uploading image..." message, but never the "done!" bit. Notecards are totally ignored. What seems to be working is the turning on/off of availability: this I test every day I jump to Help Island just to make sure it's operational (and so far, it seems to be!), although, to be honest, I never got a request through the Greeter Board (beyond that very first test), so I'm not sure if people are picking me or not. My guess is that they aren't even picking me, but I'd need to test it out.

I did one or two "hudresets" just to see if I could manage to get the picture/notecard uploading feature operational, but no luck so far.

Unfortunately my HUD isn't working either, it never has kept my pic and notecard, but i dont think the Web is working right either.

I have had about 6 or 7 newplayers IM me direct this last week telling me I was their greeter, i haven't had any notification at all about it, funiest one was last night. While on OI 14 one of the new players came to me and said
"wow thanks for meeting me here,how did you know where to find me?" all the time I am thinking Huh? lol

Luckily all were OK about it when i said i was sorry for not being in touch with them and explained that i hadn't received any notification

For some reason even though i have tried everything suggested my HUD still refuses to work, it wont keep my pic and profile and even when turned on I still dont show as available on HI, I've been standing at the side of the board on HI before now with my HUD on and Greeter tag activated and had a new player ask me why i;m not avaialble on the screen, must admit i had to smile at that one as I didnt quite know what to say.

If anyone has any ideas how to get it working I would appreciate a hint lol

A few tests I did...

1) Get from Jeska the latest HUD version (dated May 10th; the older version is from February I think).
2) Attach it.
3) Drop it to the ground.
4) Take it into inventory.
5) Wear it (it should become "Not Available".
6) Click on it to make yourself Available.
7) Say "hudreset" (no quotes).
It goes back to Not Available, so turn it available again.

At this step, on the next "greeter panel recycle" (which happens every 1-3 minutes or so), you should be added to the panel. You can at this point upload your image, and if you're at Help Island, you should receive an "ok" in the next "greeter panel recycle" (again, 1-3 minutes).

Sadly, the image won't appear, and there is no way for you to get the notecard working, but at least you will appear on the listing.

To log off properly:

9) Put yourself into "Not Available"
10) Detach
11) Log off from SL.

That way, the panel gets correctly updated.

The next time you log on: repeat steps 1-8.

FAQ:
1) Do I need to go through the whole process every time I wish to be active?
Apparently, yes. The instructions on the HUD say that you need to do a "hudreset" every time you attach it again, for the panel to activate itself with your instructions.
2) Oops. I did something wrong, and I don't show up. How can I fix it?
- Go through steps 1-8, and if it doesn't work, try two or three times. Sooner or later, the panel will pick you up.
- If it refuses to work: drop the HUD attachment on the ground, Edit it, select Tools -> Recompile Scripts in Selection. This is radical stuff, but it should give you a working HUD again.
3) I can't seem to locate Jeska to give me a new HUD, I just have the February version! Will it work?
Probably, yes. Not tested.
4) Oops! I crashed before properly detaching the HUD according to steps 9-11, and nothing works — my name is listed on the panel, but nobody can contact me.
Go through steps 1-8 again. The system knows that you're not really available, so you won't lose any IM requests; it has a timeout feature which works well. As soon as you repeat steps 1-8, the information on the panel should be refreshed correctly.
5) I'm still listed on the panel, I tried to put myself "not available", and/or detached the HUD, but I'm still there! What can I do to remove myself?
There are two possible answers:
- Please be patient! The "Greeter panel recycle time" is usually 1-3 minutes, depending on the lag on HI and the number of Greeters doing the same thing as you. It doesn't happen immediately!
- The panel is now in an "indeterminate" state (see question #4). It lists you but you're not really "there" (ie. people won'pt be able to call you, and your HUD is not really sending any status info to the Greeter panel). To fix it, go through steps 1-8 again.
