Greeter System was down when I started

Hello all,
I am brand new to SL, and when I registered, I asked for a greeter. After starting up, no special greeter was assigned to me, nor were there any mentors on at the time. Luckily there were two players who came to the Welcome Island and answered many of everyone's (probably annoying) newbie-questions at the time. I have moved on into the game and am enjoying the beautiful locations and freebies from various stores, but I have a lot more questions and startup problems that I don't want to spam strangers with. What happened to the greeter program? Has it been discontinued, or did I just happen to come in at a bad moment? Are there locations where I can find greeters? I cant go back to welcome Island anymore, are there mainland locations where I can learn more to enrich my SecondLife? I would like to say that 99% of people I have met have been extremely helpful, patient, and kind to newbies! Thank you all!

Hi Liranae - Welcome to SL. I am sorry you didn't get a Greeter or Mentor to help you. There are currently some issues with the Greeter call system.

Because of the large number of new people coming in, Linden Labs is reviewing the Greeter-Mentor program to make sure it can help as many people as possible. Obviously, we missed helping you.

The good news is, as you found out, many people are willing to help a new person. Feel free to IM me anytime. If I am not in-game, I will receive an email. I will try and respond to your question, as will any other Mentor or Greeter.
