how about greeter request being sent as a private im message instead of a system message as they are often missed for any reason a person beig afk or in another chat or real life away from screen simply make the requests go into a private im box this way they wont be missed as much

Well most greeters and newborns seem to be on when I am off and vice versa (although some of us seem to be on 24/7). Just as you see that most events are at USA evening time and not at Europeen evening time..

And I think German ppl would love to have a german greeter or someone from the Netherlands/Belgium/france/england would get a welcome by me.

Thats why a timezone would be great!

Now for the ppl that dont want that: they just dont enter it, so they will be in the pool for all greeter requests.

Coffee time!

Type and read you later!

Your making this too complex. Because since people are not always on when thy like odes not insure that you get a greeter from blank county. I heard this time zone idea before but its still uncrear the real good this would do.

Aww, wel glad to hear I am not the only one that brought this up. I do think that people would like to choose ppl from their country/timezone. I know I was happy I could talk to someone here in my language. Made me feel at home more..

Anyway. Lucky we are not all the same :-)

Basically, the only reason I didn't sign up as a Greeter (UK) is that I have absolutely no idea what kind of thing they want me to put in the description etc... and since I'm not allowed (as I'm already here) to see what other's have written... it'll probably stay that way too... which is a shame, because before there were Greeters, I was a greeter (if you know what I mean).

i'm not a greeter, but sort of ended up being one for a new resident i met. he was german, and spoke english well, but there were definitely some things that were difficult in explaining. thankfully, i know a bit of german, but he was looking to find german speakers to help him. i think having a timezone or country option would be great. :)

Time zones and other matters of this sort MAYBE could be done. But maybe in the future.

I like the idea.

I'm not a greeter, but read this thread and I think people would like to talk to greeters and others in their own country and language, especially as a newbie. I know that I like finding people who are in the same state as I am here in the states. It just gives them a comfort zone and as one put it, easier to explain things by switching to their native language when some concern is confusing.

Good idea. :-)

I think it'd be great.. When you first sign in you get the greeters page, with what we have now, plus an extra line saying something like "These greeters are in your time zone!" and give them a random selection of greeters who are within a couple of hours of their time zone..

So people who don't care what time zone they are in, or people who plan to play a 3 in the morning, just chose anyone they like the look of, and people who want a good tour round and usual local time, can pick someone from the Time Zone section.. Any thoughts?

In mine I just put, what I could help them with, what I could show them, that they could carry on IMing me with any problems they had in the future.

I worked by the logic the more apealing you sound, the more jobs you'll get, so I didn't go over the top, but I didn't try to put people off either, (I'll dump you in Cordova, Sandbox, you'll have a wonderful time, and when you stop getting shot and bashed into with vehicles, you might end up in Abbots!)...
