From the time we receive the Greeter request notification, how long does it usually take for a newbie to arrive? (When I search for them, they're not online) I had to log off a little while after my two requests because it took so long....it made me feel pretty bad.

Hi Nimue!!
In my experience it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for the player to actually get in world. I, too, nearly gave up on the first request I had and went to bed, but he finally logged on 45 minutes later. The new player chooses you from the website during the account creation/sign up. Then they have to download the software (assuming they haven't done so already), then go through Orientation island before they get in world. It makes me feel pretty bad, too, when I can't stay up to greet someone. ![]() _____________________

I've had two people pick me for a Greeter experience so far. Neither one of them ever showed up in-world.

I've had a few select me as a greeter also, never to be heard of again. In that case I assume they were unable to get into Second Life due to computer problems. Other times, it's taken a few days for us to catch up. I do try to IM everyone, just to make sure they are happy with their first few attempts to get going in SL. They always seem happy that I have contacted them, whether they require any help or not.

I think it is expected that you take a active role, in contacting them.

Well, I've had about 12 peoples names given to me.. I've met with 5 of them I think.. 2 haven't shown up in find yet.. And the rest just haven't come online while I've been online.. I search for them as often as I can but I can't do it 24/7 and there are times that I'm just not availible to log in..
I'd like to be given the calling card/friendship automatically of someone who picks me as a greeter, like when you reffer someone. _____________________

I indeed send IMs to them the instant I am contacted. Both communicated with me in that fashion, but still neither ended up showing up in world... nor did they recontact me asking for help getting in.

... I'd like to be given the calling card/friendship automatically of someone who picks me as a greeter, like when you reffer someone. I agree. What would really be nice is a greeters card. That way the greeter is notified when the new user logs in. Then after a week or two the card would automatically self destruct. I know, I'm dreaming again.... |
