I think I'm going to make an alt just so I can see what the greeter picking process is.

I for one feel bad for the newcomer, and am a little annoyed, when I get a greeter request and hours later they still haven't come in. I suggest that a note be attached to the greeter request thing specifiying that the greeters they are seeing are available at time of request and may not be available 6 hrs from now when they decide to log on. I've gotten some when I've been about to turn off and log off, and decide to wait for them... nothing.

Also... how many of you have been asked if you are an NPC?? ha ha

"Are you automated?"
"Cherry2000 at your service!"

Ha ha!!

Stands to reason that if they think the greeter is automated, it would wait for ever.

I just got this for my first time recently. Even when I tried to explain that everyone they saw with a tag over their head was a real person he still said, "So who do I kill then?" :)

Speaking as a newbie myself, the reason my greeter (Joel Kanahoe) has not seen me is because i've been stuck on orientation island for the past week. Hopefully, that will change this weekend *fingers crossed.*

To Joel (if you are reading this): my apologies.

Well, it happened a few times to me as well :) In two cases, I was required to prove that I'm human. That was hilarious :) I'm used that people question my age, gender or location, but questioning my Humanity was something I never experienced before :-)

Also, many newbies do not understand that we're "volunteers". They assume that we're either employees (we just need to explain that only avatars with the Linden family name are employees...) or that at least we're engaged in some sort of outsourced work or something since they can't believe that we go through all the trouble for nothing ;) Of course, it's impossible to prove the contrary, so I just let them keep that idea until they read about it in the Volunteer page, in the forums, etc.

I wish I had L$1 for every time a newbie thought I was an NPC.

I think I'm the only av in SL (other than Pony Linden) to so consistently fail the Turing test. Even Video Linden scores better than I do.
