Hello fellow LHers During one of the LH meetings we started talking about improvements to SL that would help solve or prevent some of the common LH calls that we get. Some things like the "Clear cache" button and "Open" option on the pie menu are already in 1.7 and will be a real benefit. So, what else do you think we could do with? Got an idea for a change that would solve a bunch of help calls? Post below...

Eliminate the 'default' attachment point for a non-clothing object. Create a prim, move it to your inventory, and drag it onto your avatar. Box-on-the-head. Be nice if the interface refused to let you drag any prim onto your av, until you had done a manual attach to an attachment point the first time (since prim objects remember where they were last attached). Essentially this means creating a new attachment point constant (NONE/NEVER) to use as a default, trapping for it, and producing a HELPFUL message if someone tries to drag it onto their av. Prim with contents and an unspecified attachment point ("This object appears to be a container. Containers need to be rezzed in-world to be unpacked. If you do not know how to do this, contact a mentor or Live-Help. If you wish to attach this object to your avatar, right click, and select ATTACH." Prim without contents and an unspecified attachment point ("This object can be attached to your avatar, but the first time you must tell it which part of your avatar to attach to. Right click on it and select ATTACH. If you need help, contact a mentor or Live-Help" Just my two bits. Even the oldbies wind up with a prim unexpectedly worn, when they miss the ground.

Someone else mentioned this somewhere, but it would be great to be able to teleport to someone at any point during an IM with the person who needs help. Right now the tp offer expires after 2 minutes.

I think Jeska has already put in a request for a longer timeout on the LH teleport button. Won't be in the forthcoming release, but hopefully soon.

Teleport timeout

Yes, Jeska said she had requested a longer teleport time for us, but I have to wonder why it has to expire at all?

I was told by help to go to the website and download version 1.7 but I can't find it. Anyone have a link for it?

Guess: pending tports of all kind share a global queue that is of fixed size and therefore push the oldest off the end (offered tports expire too).

From: someone "Clear cache" button I suggest menu Tools>Clear Cache... or even Debug>Clear Cache... I also despair of these being added to 1.7 at this date. Also it may be a disaster for the client to have the cache removed from under it, in which case perhaps a splash screen button (which may be too tempting)?

something i once mentioned (and someone recommend i start a petition for, though i'd never gotten around to it - is for the sl client to download/install (for first users) with graphics set to 'minimal bling', except maybe for distance set for 96/128 meters - set the default for best fps, albeit not as nice-looking. let users by default get the best fps response, then let them discover/explore better graphics at their leisure... since in-the-know gamers will be more liable to explore their preference options anyways, and be more adept at setting what's appropriate for their cards.

A lot of the things that are helpful to Resis happen to be the crap that stubs toes time after time, the little annoyances that you forget the pain of when you get a certain distance away, but when you get hit by it again, you're like, "ARGHHH!" "Clear Cache" button being one of them, OPENING BOXES being another, map autocomplete for Region being another, and hehehe the short width of the chatbar was bugging me for the longest time with the grayspace on the right. Sooo wonderful to see these addressed in 1.7. Nyoko, I wonder why SL can't do a specific configuration depending on your hardware? I have seen games do it, like they'll test your processor and graphics card and memory and then autoconfig you. I think No One Lives Forever 2 did that to me. Anyhoo, yah. All that being said, I think there are a lot of improvements to IMs that would make a YUGE difference. I am not a Live Helper but I am believed to be well-acquainted with Instant Messaging within SL... there is a collective thread here for anyone who hasn't read it yet. Thanxies.

Anyhoo, yah. agreed; that's certainly been done in other 'games' (oops, used the 'g' word! i s'pose the sticking point would be what to use as the benchmark - 24fps (i like at least motion-picture speed myself), 18/15fps (could certainly push down that far for acceptible motion)? and then, i've heard some feedbacks where some folks -prefer- more detail in trade for fps; i presume these people can go down to even 10fps, though i'd find that awfully grating myself. or maybe use the 'john dykstra' standard of 60fps for 'maximum retinal/brain saturation' - lol!!
