Thank you to anyone who might be able to help me out here.
My computer is 5 years old and my graphic card barely worked for sl.
I had a problem with it and now need to buy a new graphic card but
my computer only handles PCI NOT pci Express.

I bought two different cards so far and neither work. They are even worse
than the original one in the computer.

I can't buy another one thats Wrong!

Does anyone know what graphic cards will work well when you only
have a PCI bus ....

Thanks so much...i really don't have anyone else to ask.

ps- someone answered me last month but I didnt realize back then
that I didnt have pci express so I wanted to say thank you anyway for
the last advice and now I gotta find out the card options for just pci

What cards did you buy?

I suspect something like a Radeon 9600 or nVidia 6800 is te best you will be able to do.

What kind of computer do you have? If it's a pre-made, store bought model, the brand and model number can help figure out what's going on in your situation.

Do you know what the wattage of the power supply is? This matters when you buy a video card.

Newegg.com has a Radeon HD 2400PRO for 80 bucks that's PCI bus.

Also there's a Sparkle nVidia GeForce 8400 GS that's PCI bus that's 59 dollars.

You would also want to know if you need a low profile card or not. If your computer is tiny, you might need a low profile card.

You might want to consider getting a new computer or a used one with a pci-e slot.

Hopefully this link will take you to newegg.com's selection of pci bus video cards.

You might be able to get a used card on ebay for very little.

Buy a new computer.

It won't cost you much more than a top notch video card, if you shop carefully...in another thread in these forums just this week, someone found two screaming systems on Craigslist for $500 and $700.

Also, very few people actually read this forum (see Stickies above.) You'd be better off asking your question here, where you'll get more ideas:

First I want to say thank you to everybody who tried to help~

Well I went out and bought a nvidia 8400 and my computer is running
terrible now...and it won't even let me sign in to sl now.

I removed it but it seems to have affected my original card now..ugh,
My original card use to let me get in to sl ....but I lagged bad. Now I can't
even get to sign on. Its saying it has to be set on 32 bit...which it is....
but it still says it's not set...i give up...lol

Well, thanks for your help guys...i guess this is not a basic question
with a basic answer. I thought maybe someone who has just pci
would have found the "right" card for our problem

Have a good night~

It sounds like you've run into a bad driver problem. There are issues with some newer nVidia drivers. I don't know the "good" versions for your card, but someone who does should be able to chime in with a list.

problem to run second life

second life is unable to run because your video car drivers did not install properly, are out date, or are for unsupportedd hardware. Please make sure you have the latest video card drivers and event if you do have the latest, try reinstalling them

help?

You would probably do well to start a new thread for your problem in either the Resident Answers forum or the Technical forum. As mentioned in a post above, this forum doesn't get much use.

If you do so, you should supply information about your computer system - what brand, model, operating system, amount of ram, brand and model of video card, and what version your video drivers are.

The general response to you the message you got is to go to the video card manufacturer's site and follow the procedure to update your video driver, but that might not be good advice, depending on what kind of video card you have.
