I downloaded the game and everything got to the log in page...then the game shuts down because i do not have a video card of 8500 equivalent........what do I do now??

Nikki...if your video card isn't supported by Second Life it is likely you will have, at the very least, trouble running it. More than likely Second Life will not run at all.
However, you can write to support at [email]support@secondlife.com[/email] or phone them at 800-860-6990 (US & Canada) Monday-Friday 8am-6pm PT.
This portion of the forums isn't really a "help line" but I couldn't ignore you...smile.

First make sure your computer meets the min req. Second contact support they will reply asap. Third when you get in sl enjoy it to your fullest

there are greeters mentors etc and you can always just ask fellow secondlife citizens but that might get them mad
