I’m interested in purchasing land, but the prices are crazy if real. What is my cheapest option?

Search, land sales, mainland only, enter an ammount of LS, sort by smallest price per m^2.

Or search private sim land that rents for 1 L$ per prim per week or less, without one time buying cost, it is rare but exists.

If an account pays for its maximum: ( 65500m² (200USD monthly) + 512m² (in account for 72 USD yearly) ) + 5% to 10% bonus if it is group land, that person has roughly 16000 prims. That comes down to a price of roughly 1L$ per prim per week, even with +20% VATax ant exchange fees included.

But also keep in mind that a full sim supports only 15,000 prims, so of the 16,000 prims referenced above 1000 of them would not be on the same sim.

The prices may be crazy compared to what you can earn with easy-to-find SL jobs like "camping". But what minimum-wage burger flipper in RL can afford to buy land, either?

Land prices in SL, like nearly all prices in SL, are ridiculously lower than in RL. In SL, I can buy my own 16 acre tropical island for US$1,695. In RL, I'd pay anywhere from $3 million on up.

Of course, the land isn't "real". It's a graphical representation of storage space and computer time that I'm renting on a server somewhere. Even so, the price is pretty reasonable, judging from the fact that I can generally re-sell it at a profit, or rent it out and make a profit that way. What I'm saying is, it's realistically priced in terms of the overall SL microeconomy.

But it's not wise to jump too quickly into land ownership, in SL any more than in RL. I suggest you try renting first, while reading up on everything you can about the joys and pitfalls of land in Second Life. Weekly rentals of either bare land or a fully furnished house can be found at reasonable prices.

Not only that, but you don't even have to rent a place. It's perfectly possible to have a great time in SL as a homeless wanderer. A couple of my friends have been doing it for years.
