Since Friday 3rd August i have had to relog probably 300 times.
My connection runs average 25kbps. Rezzing doesnt complete even after 20 minutes or so and mt av is frozen. Occasionaly I'll get a good connection but only after hours of relogging. Ive tried 2 ISPs also on seperate PCs and modems. Same problem. Previous to Friday I averaged 500kbps and had no problems....Something has happened in SL or the routing I think. Any ideas? Ive done a tracert sim400.agni.lindenlab.com and times seem ok.

What kind of results do you get from speedtest.net?

Try your nearest server in AUS, then the servers in San Francisco and Dallas.

Well that explains your packet loss problems. Your latency is atrocious as far as North American connections are concerned. 7450milliseconds?

Hopefully this is a result of peering issues between AUS and the US and affected ISPs are on the case.

I think the Distance :7450 is the Mileage Sydney to US. I read Latency as 189ms.....am I reading this correctly?
Thanks for your time,

LOL. Yes you're right. I thought that was odd how both San Jose and San Fran had identical ping response time. Doh. My fault for rushing through posts here. :o

189ms isn't a great response time, but I've seen more stable connections with worse pings than that. I wonder if any other Aussies are having similar problems?

Did this issue coincide with the client update by the way? I think it became an optional upgrade on Friday 3rd. AFter installing, I had issues I'd normally associate with lag (I was permanently ruthed) but it transpired to be a problem with the settings directory. After deleting it, my problems disappeared.

Oh you don't have to uninstall SL! :)

Just delete the files under:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\SecondLife\

Replace <Username> with your system username. If unsure what it is, look in Preferences > Network tab and you'll see the directory name listed there.

Edit: Uninstalling SL doesn't remove this directory by the way. That's why it has to be done manually.

Well there you go you can't say you can't get a usable connection from Australia.
There's hundreds of Aussies in SL to prove you wrong, most I met have been with Optus or Bigpond. I've been here for 9 monhs and rarely ever had a problem at my end other than when I was getting speed restricted after hitting account limits.

Mine hits the 1500 max of SL regularly even when running 2 alts at once, or having multiple sites opening I can hit 8000kbps, but my max is supposd to be 20,000.

But you get what you pay for sometimes with halfprice internet................. :)
As I said to a Dodo user the other night complaining about grey textures, "you have to pay extra for colour " :)

I am with Westnet which is a Western Australian ISP and I have never had any trouble with connection or speed related issues. I have found when I was running Windows XP I was have some problems, but since changing to Windows Vista SL has worked better.

Go Figure.
