cpu running 100%, whats wrong

i work on a good pc, with 2,3 gigahz cpu, 1 gig ddram and and 256 mb graphikcard and a 100mb/sek internet connection, but i cannot run secondlife because it is taking all resources and makes the cpu run on 100%, already when starting second life and then it takes a minute only to enter my username.
whats wrong, thanks for helping

That's what my PC is running at. I have pretty much the same set up as you except a 2.4Gig machine. I had an older 64MB graphics card and 768MB RAM and I was running at 100%. I figured that by changing the graphics card to a 256MB and bringing the RAM to 1 GIG I would get a bit better performance but that hasn't been the case.

Are you guys Dual Processor or Hyperthreaded? There is (was?) a known problem with SL.

CPU running at 100% says to me (as an amateur) that what should be handled by your graphics adaptor is being handled by your CPU.
