Hi all When ever someone loses content within my estates, it seems the resident is advised by livehelp to contact the estate owner to ask for a roll back. May I humbly request this is not offered as a 'solution'? Most sims are home to more than one resident, on average 5-10 per sim. Whilst a roll back may return the poor resident's lost content, it will very likely result in content loss from the other resident's islands in the sim, doing more damage than good. Having lost content myself on a number of occassions, I know how frustrating it is to be in the resident's shoes. I also understand how awkward it must be for you guys, not being able to offer a solution to their problem. But advising the resident to ask the estate owner for a rollback is not going to solve anything edit to add: I appreciate all the hard work that livehelpers do, and for very little, if any reward. I've always found you guys to be very helpful. I have posted this to point out that the rollback is not a viable solution to anyone who is not aware of that fact

OK can I make the same polite request of Lindens please? Today I got a resident IMing me that they have been advised by *name hidden to protect identity* Linden to ask me for a rollback because they messed up their land editing.
*wonders off in amazement*

Its a tough call, Hiro - I completely see your predicament.
I haven't myself advised anyone to ask for a sim rollback. But I could see how it could come up.
Take the following imaginary dialogue:
Resident: OMG please help me - I accidentally deleted my house I've been working on for a month! Live Helper: Hi, Resident! Check your trash folder & see if its there. Resident: I did that - its not there. I think it might have been group owned. Live Helper: Well, group owned objects don't go to trash - they pretty much poof. I'm afraid there isn't much that can be done. Resident: <explicative> You're telling me that there's *nothing* that can be done? I've heard of other people getting sim rollbacks before - how do I make that happen? Live Helper: Yes, you could ask Linden Labs for a rollback, but that's a pretty big deal as it affects everyone in your sim. What sim are you in? Resident: I'm in <name of sim owned by Hiro> Live Helper: Well, since you're on a private island, you really can't even ask Linden for a rollback for that sim yourself. Requests for rollbacks have to come from the sim owner. Resident: Fine. I'll contact my landlord. Thank you very little.
In a dialog like that, you can see that the Resident is hot already. By the time they get to you, Hiro - they're probably even hotter, and less likely to understand when you try to tell them that you can't/won't ask for a rollback because it will affect everyone.
As a Live Helper, its somewhat of a bind - especially when the resident flat-out asks for a sim rollback. I don't want to lie about it - it really is you they have to ask if they want one done. About all I can do is remind them of how it effects everyone else, and - there's no guarantee you'll agree to it.
Thoughts?

I send those to support since there's really nothing that could be done. You can only try to calm down a upset plea for help. Beyond that only sipport could handle anything like that.... I wouldnt even mention a roll back since it does involve quite a bit and calling or emailing suspport is really all the help I could offer.

Completely agree - I probably wouldn't initiate a conversation about a sim rollback either. But what if the resident asks questions about it? I mean, I could be forwarding them to support for that, but I know support will just turn around and say the resident needs to contact the Sim owner. I'd feel like I'm just sending them down an 'its not my job' wild goose chase. However - if sending folks to directly support is the way Linden wants us to do it if they ask questions like this, I'm cool with that

I just do my very best to calm them down. If they happen to ask about a rollback I will simply state that there is nothing I can do about that and going through support is the only help and advice I can give I know many times we get involved with a LH IM that makes us feel bad for the person but, sometimes we have to just tell it like it is.
