Could somebody please help me as my avatar has frozen and I can't do anthing on SL because of it. When i first sign in it works for a couple of seconds then freezes.

Did you get a response to this?
If not, it's probably due to graphics changes when you updated to the latest client.
Before you hit the "log in" button, go to "edit" "preferences" "graphics", make sure that the "custom" box is checked and then try the following:
Draw distance, no more than 128m
Ensure that the sliders on the right side are set to Low / mid
Go to hardward options and redude the texture memory to the lowest position.
Apply these changes, then go to "Network"
Reduce your bandwidth to 2/3 of what it's set to.
Clear your cache.
Close down the viewer and start it back up again and try to relog.
