Volunteer Application Page Borked!

Sigh. It would seem LL's track record for making it as hard as possible to communicate is still intact.

I went to the Volunteer Application page to offer my services. There's a text box there with a 500 character limit, where you're offered the opportunity to describe your qualifications to be a Linden Volunteer.

As you type in the box, the "characters used" number stays at zero...until you hit the 500 character limit.

Then the limit message line turns red,.

Type one more character, and the whole page vanishes suddenly. Oh, did I mention that I'm a fast typist?

I worked hard, twice, to squeeze my extensive RL and SL accomplishments into the box. I got kicked out, twice.

If LL is VERY lucky, I might have the motivation to try yet a third time, after I calm down.

And also, if you dont have the patients to deal with that application box, I dont think you are the right man for a Mentor position

Is there a doctor in the house?

I don't think it's a case of not having patience, I think it's a case of another rock in the road of the troubled path of becoming a Mentor. By the way, Lindal, I was told today by a Linden that there is a backlog of 3000 Mentor applications. Don't hold your breath...

Thanks, Chaffro. I managed to step over the rock in the road and got my app in. And, as I told one mentor I encountered, "danged if I'm going to wait a year for permission". I'm perfectly willing to step in and help, with or without the Official LL Nametag.

Joker, I could be a newborn resident today, but by the time LL gets around to reviewing my application, I'm pretty sure I'll have satisfied the "two months in game" criterion.

And it's "patience" dear, not "patients". (See, I'm mentoring already!)

And I'm definitely not the right man for the job. I'm the right woman for the job.

I was simply making an observation of how much -patience- it takes to be a mentor. And that if the box killed your application once, i'd be in best interest to go slow, and be weary of the max characters the next time around.

I wasnt trying to be mean, was simply pointing something out - and in light of the gender mixup - sorry.

And for the spellchecking: Thanks!
Ill be sure to IM you next time im writing an important, professional, letter to a resident

Volunteer Page STILL Borked.

I went back and checked the status of my Volunteer application.

I wanted to update my application with some additional accomplishments and credentials, but there's no way to do that. That's the first problem.

In addition, I read....

Please note in order to be a Second Life Volunteer, you do need to be in-world for at least 6 months. Please re-apply again later! ....

Volunteer Programs
Mentors Application under process. ....

...Please note that it can take between 4 - 6 weeks for applications to the Volunteer Program to be approved. You may be approved to join the Volunteer Program at any time, depending on our need for new Volunteers. As long as your application states "Application under process." you are still under consideration. Thank you for your patience.

So...is my application "still under consideration"? Or should I "re-apply again later"?

Considering that, according to reports from new Mentors, the process is now taking nine months to a year, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that by the time LL gets around to approving me, I will have met the six month criterion.

I'm sure glad that I'm now a member of two in-world Resident-run helper groups and a teacher at GQ Start, and didn't sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting for some kind of "official stamp of approval". I'm helping people NOW, not waiting on LL.
