Evil Mentor

For the past week I've been hunting down a free but good gift for a christmas party i will attend. today i finally found some free gifts that look nice. after i collected my prize i went home, to the hub that happened to be free. it was the bay city airport.

i look around and i see a female avatar with a title of "evil mentor". i am quite curious why it said "evil" and i go ahead and ask if she can help me. i tell i have a gift to give and need help to make it a present. you see it came in a box but i found some really nice gift box with bows. i was hpoe to she can guide me.

midway through my IM she kicks me with her feet and my body goes flying backwards. i get back up and ask why. she said it was her gift to me. i ask if we can find a private place because a lot of people are coming in. at this point a male avatar comes up to me and next thing i know i am looking at a wall. i ask where she went, she said i got pushed. then the male avatar comes up to me and moves me around the room with all these people watching. i hear noises like a fly zapper and he is pushing me around and i end up in a wall. then i ask the mentor for help because i am being attacked and she says leave me alone. i ask her to help because she is mentor and she says simply "i'm evil i can chose" and she says she will mute me.

i tell the male that everyone here in the bay city airport is my witness and i will get him back. i hope that because my avatar is a black male and that i am new didnt have anything to do with my being attacked 3 or 4 times and no help from a mentor?

if someone wears a mentor title i would hope they would help but i was surely abused due to her because i had no words prior with the male avatar. i remember the names of the mentor and the male that attacked me.

are all mentors evil?

by the way, she was in a group named "Bay City Mentors"

i hope that nobody else is treated bad like i was

Sorry for your bad experiance but the official mentor program got disbanded so anyone can call them a mentor and act like this jojo.

Hope you find more helpfull and friendly people in your trafels becouse a lot of former mentors are still around ready to help you.

Slander, sorry to hear you had such a poor welcome to SL.

As Abigail says, someone can title themselves any way they like; they can also create their own group and title it as they like. Griefers seem to gravitate toward newbies (and therefore hubs/welcome areas) because they don't yet know how to defend themselves, escape or AR (Abuse Report) this kind of incident. AR is found in the Help menu in world, I think, and is best to report them ASAP, even while happening if possible.

One thing you can do is to find another place to set as your "home".

Slander, it's hard to "get someone back" in SL. The griefers are usually so much better at it.

You've gotten good advice so far. To that, I will add: The best defense against someone pushing you is to sit on something. Right click pretty much any object and choose "Sit Here". When you are sitting, you cannot be pushed.

Sorry to hear about what happened. Anyone could claim the mentor title before, but there has been an uptick since the official mentor group got disbanded by LL. In any case, there are plenty of legitimate mentor groups of members that want to help people. Open up there profile and see if they have one or more of these (and run away if their profile says it is less than 90 days old or if you get a bad vibe from the other groups they are in).

Some big mentor groups I can think of that honestly want to help:

Mental Mentors
SecondAbility Mentors
pretty much any group that includes NCI in the name/description

best you can do is report them and get the witnesses to report them. the more reports, the more likely things will be handled.

Welcome to Second Life, Slander. Most people here are nice, but unfortunately starting areas draw griefers and immature types. My advice is to go exploring. A few good places to check out are:

Looking at Snapzilla, Koinup, and Flickr can help give ideas of places to explore.

Just move on - they will probably spend their Second Lives in one spot trying to ruin things for other people, so you'll have the last laugh.

I am sorry to hear you were treated so badly. As many have, sadly the true mentors have been disbanded. But many have gone on to continue helping on their own accord.
