I just got back in the Mentor group, and was at one of the new style Orientation Islands for the first time in a mentoring capacity.
I didn't really know what to tell people. I just walked around with a few people and explored the four basic tasks and that seemed to work ok.
I got asked some questions about land ownership and group rights the day before I went to Orientation Island, and my knowledge was again outdated.
I looked in the volunteer information section of the sl wiki, and that was lacking some basic information, or I couldn't find it, such as how the current Orientation Island system works, and it had outdated, inaccurate information in it, for example on some of the pages of notecards volunteers have handed out are extremely outdated.
I looked in the Knowledgebase, and it too was full of outdated information, and I couldn't find basic stuff in it. It might be there, but I couldn't find it in the amount of time I was willing to spend on searching. You know how it is, when you are helping a new user who is most likely going to quit SL and never come back unless they have a great first experience you need to be able answer whatever they ask instantly. Can't expect to achieve that goal, but it would be nice not to have to spend ten minutes to tell them, when you get through, that you can't answer the question because there is no up to date information available.
So, I'm asking for donations of the most important, up to date to the greatest degree possible notecards and other data sources that are useful in typical mentoring situations that you have. (not SL from two years ago, like some of the info I found recently.
Thanks.
