This is from a vteamblog.com post about the upcoming "Second Life Answers" forum-thing, which if I understand correctly will let SL users in general ask questions that will be answered by Second Life Mentors.

Another short update: Many of you have heard about the Second Life Answers project. There has been some great progress due to the help of volunteer beta testers. The new blog software has had some bugs and these testers helped pin point those so they could be resolved quickly. There are still a couple being worked on but we are now able to say the target date for the Second Life Answers launch is the last week of this month :)

Second Life Answers will open with basic features and new features will be added as they become available. The Answers site will be seeded with a number of questions and answers prior to launch. We consider this a “soft launch” to allow the Second Life community a chance to log in and try out the site. Particularly for the language channels, this time will help us determine what the volume of questions might be and what changes, if any, the categories may need. So, please expect there to be modifications and improvements as this exciting new program takes its first steps.

Once it’s live, we will automatically add all current members of the Second Life Mentor group (and beta group) to a Volunteer group on the Answers site. This group will aid us in the future if we decide to add in new, volunteer-targeted features as the Second Life Answers program matures and will appear on your Blog/Forum profile page. You are of course welcome to leave the group at any time, but we hope you’ll stick around and help us with the newest volunteer program.

I wish I'd picked a different day to not check my avatar email. Oh well, that's nowhere near as bad a mistake I made by not buying a charter membership.

Why don't you post this over in RA Suezanne? I did but since I am probably on everyone's ignore list noone is bothering to view it! :D I am sure that the Residents there would be interested to know about it, especially since it is supposed to be up live by the end of the month!

If the blog fails on the internet but nobody can read it, has it really failed?

Edit: Oh... this isn't the flakey SLblog, it's something else. What does this mean?

No, AFAIK it is the flaky SLblog, or anyway is supposedly running from the same Clearspace software.

Until they get around to improving the situation with http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-982, anything hanging off the blog will still look amateurish and broken to a significant number of visitors.

It's kind of a shame because it's intended to be part of the public face of Second Life, and the defect makes it look as if Linden Lab fell off the net. In contrast, the Forums are hidden from non-members which may be for the best considering the conspicuous bit rot around here, but at least they mostly work.

Of course I'm assuming that, like the blog, the Answers pages are to be visible to the public. Right?

Well it will nullify the need for our own RA, I guess. Maybe they'll let us keep it as a backup help area.

I can say one thing; if it works anything like Yahoo Answers, then we won't get the same questions over and over again. Yahoo Answers' search engine works very well, and I can nearly always find an answer to my own question within 30 seconds. That's about 300 times better than the crappy search used by the SL Forums.

Because of the better/more powerful search, only ONE question will be asked about a topic, not 100. An example? How about "I've put $25 into my account with my credit card, and now LL won't let me buy L$ because it says that I've exceeded my limit for 24 hours. What gives?" We've answered that question hundreds of times over the years. With SL Answers, users can find their answer instantly.

I'm all for it for use as the main source of Q&A sort of info, but we do need to maintain the SL Forums as a discussion point. Most of the JIRA issues that I vote for are discussed in Resident Answers; I wouldn't know about them otherwise.

SL Forums are also a good way to do the back and forth sort of question answering that we do. Example? My own thread on SL being jittery; people helped me by asking ME questions about my own system. We all eventually muddled it through (thanks!) It would never have been solved with just one question and its answer. It needed give and take. That's why we should keep the SL Forums.

I am all a more organised search. That will be great.

But i will miss wordpress. It is simple and i can post from my iphone. The Clearspace blog and my phone do not like each other at all. =/

Most of the question I answer here are redundant anyways. A yahoo answers format will solve that issue. Though i worry it will hurt the social side of these forums.

WTF is vteamblog.com? Who has ever heard of that? Why is there a secret blog run by LL?
