What SL location(s) do you recommend to new residents the most?

I have developed a tool to assist Mentors in their role. I am modifying an open source picture viewer to be used as a tool for use on Help Island, or anyplace one might wear a "Mentor" group title. When a Second Life resident clicks on the viewer, as any particular image is displayed, the user will receive either a notecard (with landmark) about the location depicted in that image.

The tool's behavior is complete, and will be posted in the SL forums as an open source object. The only thing I need is the input from the Mentor group, so the content will be most useful. Once a worthwhile set of images and notecards is assembled, I will also post here again, inviting y'all to have a copy.

Cheers.

Top Newbie Places to Visit

This sounds like a very cool idea:)

Among some of the places that new residents should visit would be:

The Shelter: a PG hangout where newbies can meet, chat, dance, get a nice variety of freebies, play games that pay $L as prizes, visit a money tree, and ask questions of knowledgeable volunteers.

New Citizens Inc: A great place that gives classes, has a huge collection of freebie items of all kinds, has changing rooms so residents can dress in private, and allows new residents to set a home location in the park attached to the plaza.

Since many new residents often regret leaving Orientation Island or Help Island too quickly, you might want to include:

Orientation Island Public
Help Island Public

For shopping, I would suggest:

The Gnubie Store
Free Dove

For building reference:

The Ivory Tower of Prims

A beautiful and neat recreational place to explore is:

The Garden (in State of Mind)

That's my two cents for now :)

Breathing again

I have pulled this project out of my Inventory-Attic, dusted it off, and will try to breathe new life into it again.

I have an Educator's content set* underway, and am still thinking there are more locations that Mentors frequently recommend to new users...

What locations in the grid are most often suggested to new users as having resources or providing assistance?

All input is appreciated.
