Hmm...I think you could have explained a little more what you're asking...however, from your thread title I'll make an educated guess...
You should be realistic--no one wants to catch their mentor in a lie. What mentors have to remember is their bed-side manner--they have to be encouraging WHILE they're being realistic...that's the secret. Never lie.
